The Bible offers transparent guidance on how we ought to handle and use the knowledge we obtain. It is also important to note that the scripture stresses that knowledge should be utilized to the glory of God and for the benefit of others. For example, in James 1:5, we are enticed to seek wisdom from the Almighty: "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given to him" (New King James Version, 2009, James 1:5). It’s not the knowledge for a self-serving purpose, but to assist us on how to live in this world in a way that pleases the Lord.
Besides, Proverbs 2:6 reminds us that knowledge and wisdom are given by God. The bible states that, "For the Lord Gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding" (New King James Version, 2009, Proverbs 2:6). The "why" here is seen in the continuation of the verse: these gifts from the Almighty are offered to enable us to lead righteous lives and make right choices that are pleasing to His sight.
The scriptures also warns people against abusing knowledge. In 1 Corinthians, it is stated that, "knowledge puffs up, but love builds up" (New King James Version, 2009, 1 Corinthians 8:1). This makes us recall that wisdom should not result to arrogance, however, it should facilitate love within our relationships. Without love, knowledge can become a tool for self-promotion rather than service. Therefore, we must use our understanding to encourage those around us, aligning our knowledge with God's command to love one another. Ultimately, the knowledge we obtain is to be utilized for God’s glory. Colossians 3:17 (New King James Version, 2009) teaches us that everything we partake, whether in word or doing, we ought to do it all through the Lord Jesus, with all thanks to the Almighty.
