What Happens After A Coolsculpting Session?
Source
Cryolipolysis or CoolSculpting is a non-invasive procedure that freezes fat cells on any part of
the body and eliminates stubborn fat deposits by delivering precisely controlled cooling. Many
people are choosing to undergo this procedure because it causes little to no pain. It also
eliminates the need for surgery, like liposuction. While it does deliver a cooling sensation during
the process, how does your body react after a CoolSculpting session?
Side Effects
After a CoolSculpting session, you may experience typical side effects such as temporary
redness, swelling, cramping, muscle spasms, and itching in the treated area. However, these
side effects should subside after a few hours or days. If they don't subside within two weeks,
head over to your doctor to resolve these issues right away.
It is also typical for the treated area to be bloated and swollen after the session. We recommend
wearing compression tights such as yoga pants or spandex until the side effects subside.
Results and Future CoolSculpting Sessions
Note that this procedure is not meant for weight loss but to get rid of stubborn fat. Patients who
undergo a CoolSculpting session expect at 20–25% fat reduction in the treated area. This
significant percentage of reduction happens because the fat cells in the bodies are naturally
processed and eliminated so that they won't transfer to another part of their body.
You may see the changes in your body as early as three weeks after CoolSculpting. Your body
will continue healing and processing your fat cells for four months after the procedure. This
means that dramatic results will occur within two to three months.
The number of treatments will depend on your body. You may document the changes
throughout the weeks following your first session and consult your doctor should you need a
second round of CoolSculpting.
No Downtime
Unlike other fat-reducing procedures, CoolSculpting does not have any downtime because there
is usually little to no pain experienced after a session. You can do your regular daily activities,
go back to work, or enjoy what you were doing before your appointment with no pain or
discomfort.
Paradoxical Adipose Hyperplasia (PAH)
In a small number of cases, Paradoxical Adipose Hyperplasia (PAH) can happen. Instead of the
fat gradually shrinking, it expands to the treated area and hardens into a lump in response to the
extreme cold. The bulge after CoolSculpting becomes bigger and firmer than the surrounding
tissues.
According to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association Dermatology,
PAH happens months after the initial CoolSculpting session, with an incidence rate of 0.0051%.
Although rare, it's crucial for you to seek the services of a trustworthy and experienced provider.
Consult and work closely with your doctor so you could respond quickly to the possible side
effects after each CoolSculpting session.
