About me
My name is Heppy Syaputri Dewandani.
I graduated from State University of Jakarta in 2012 with a Bachelor degree
in English Language and Literature.
I love language and words. I also love books. I love to read them. Well, most of
the time, I sniff them before actually read them.
I love to write, too.
And I’m good at it.
This is my digital portfolio. I curated my writing samples I tailored with
passion.
Although most of them are spec ads, I still take them seriously.
And I hope you will too.
Campaign ads (Spec/Mockup)
Kindle, an e-reader device marketed by Amazon, wants to make a campaign about
reading e-books as the alternative of physical books. Not only simply an alternative,
but it is also the successor of the traditional physical books which was made of papers.
This campaign is assigned during the massive news coverage of the forest fire in
Sumatra, targeting audiences who care about environment as well as raising
awareness of eco-friendly, go green movement.

Campaign ads (Spec/Mockup)
A campaign assigned by Gillette, a brand of men's razor, about the new feature of the
product which is 5-blade technology, resulting a quick, comfortable shaving
performance. The campaign itself is conducted around the Father’s day, with the
father-daughter relationship as the main theme. The campaign is also targeting the
audience to be involved in the social media campaign using #ShaveFaster.

Social Media (Instagram)
During 2015 - August 2016, I co-created an English website with two of my friends,
where young people could write and share their thoughts, passion and ideas regarding
pop culture called Whizette (whizette.com). We handled the social media (including
Twitter and Instagram). We targeted teenagers and young adults in the social media to
be our contributors. So far, there have been 20-30 contributors from around the world.
For the Instagram posts, we created our contents as well as reposted from other
Instagram users (mostly artists who share their arts on Instagram) under their
permission. The website is currently offline due the expired hosting.

Blog
I write in my personal blog, thegreybooks.wordpress.com, related to books (reviews,
talks and ideas). Previously, the contents of the blog varied from music, personal
thoughts regarding current event, and many more. However, after I launched a
website with my friends, I decided to transfer my non-book related posts to our website
and one category on our website as I only focus on book posts.

Hardcover, Paperback, Mass Market Paperback,
or eBook?
JUNE 24, 2014JUNE 24, 2014 ~ POYVZSKI ~
“I hate Mass Market Paperback with passion!” says
someone on Instagram. I read her caption as I
scrolled my Instagram home page. I was surprised
when I found someone hate Mass Market Paperback
with passion while I buy so many of them.
As bibliophile, we know how much we love that
genre, this kind of edition, that kind of book, this
kind of cover and whatnot. But we know that
everyone’s different and that we have to accept it.
So now, let’s talk about ‘what is your type of book?’
Firstly, we have the most preferable type here: Yep,
hardcover. People love it because it’s expensive
(and that’s why a lot of people don’t like it as well),
durable, heavier, and cooler. I’ve counted how
many hardcover books I have on my shelves and I realized I just have one hardcover novel (I have
some hardcover books but mostly are textbooks or history books). I honestly prefer hardcover but
since it’s way more expensive (it can be twice more expensive than paperback) I don’t chose
hardcover. (Unless you can give me one for free, I’d love to accept that!)
Secondly, paperback or softcover books are also one of the most favorite types. It’s affordable, light,
comfortable to hold, and so cool and I love it so much sometimes I accidentally fold the cover and cry
for hours because it doesn’t look beautiful anymore. But the best reason of why I love paperback is
that it’s lighter and easier to carry and travel with. Or when I read before sleep and I can’t help but fall
asleep and the book fall right on my face, the paperback won’t hurt me that bad.
Thirdly, the least favorite one is Mass Market Paperback. I used to hate it so much. The paper is ugly
and it’s so small and whatever that sounds so uninteresting. But it is way cheaper than hardcover or
paperback and people who are not‑so‑rich‑to‑buy‑many‑imported‑books‑for‑pleasure‑monthly like
me would prefer this one. Especially since a lot of bargain books are this type. I’m starting to buy
mass market paperbacks and trying to like it. And well, it’s not that bad, though.

Last but not least, here is the one
that isn’t book sniffers love: e‑ 1/2

Hardcover, Paperback, Mass Market Paperback, or eBook? | The Grey Books.
Last but not least, here is the one that isn’t book sniffers love: e‑
Book. Many people choose this one since you don’t need a lot of
space at your house for bookshelves, affordable, portable, and
eco‑friendly. But I don’t buy e‑Book. It’s not that e‑Book is a bad
thing, just don’t get me wrong. It’s because that I don’t want to
hurt my eyes reading from the screen for hours. And I hate the
fact that I can’t feel and sniff the smell of paper when I read e‑
Book. I tried once to download free classic literature e‑Book and
it didn’t go well. I have some e‑Books, though. Most of them are
my study references because sometimes I don’t feel like going to
library to borrow books. So e‑Book is not for me.
Everyone’s preference differs from each other for a reason. And
that’s oookay, isn’t it? Tell me ‘what’s your type of book’ and
why on the comment section below!

Until now I wasn’t even awake mass market paperbacks were a thing! I think the only books I own
that are probably mass market paperbacks are my collection of Wordsworth classics and a lot of
them are for my studies anyway! I don’t really like hardcovers because I can’t curl up with them,
but I totally understand the appeal and the draw of them. If I can afford a hardcover I’ll normally
buy it, because for some reason it feels more special. But I do prefer paperbacks. Almost all of the
books I own are paperbacks (and I don’t even mind when the corners get folded over of the spines
creased because I just think it shows it’s been read. It’s only when it’s been seriously damaged that
I get annoyed!)

That reminds me of my teachers. They said the more your books look like it’s read (like the corners
get folded etc), the be늌ꯃer it looks and that means you ‘respect’ the book.
