After submission, the short proposals will be reviewed by scientific panels (partly partially selected by our scientific committeeScientific Committee) that will chosechoose the fifty best proposals by from each field (Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Mathematics, Physics). There will be one panel per member of the scientific committee. At this stage, all proposals will remain fully anonymous, since; panelists will not have access to the long proposals. Fifty projects per field will then be sent to members of our Scientific Committee, which is composed of twelve scientists based in Brazil, Germany, France, and or the United States of America.
The committee is made up of one member per from each field, other than Life Sciences (five members) and Engineering (two members). Committee members will evaluate proposals with the help of two to or three qualified external reviewers per project -- —this is why all projects must be written in English. At this stage, both the long and short proposals will be used for evaluationevaluated. Therefore, your proposal will no longer be anonymous. Each member of the Scientific Committee will select six to or seven grantees;, with a total of seventy grantees will be selected from all fields. These They will be awarded one-year grants (up to R$100,000).
After a year, members of the Scientific Committee grantees will be re-evaluatedre-evaluate by members of the Scientific Committee granteeson their ability to produce ground-breaking ideas and data. At this point, ten to twenty candidates will be selected for an additional three years of funding, regardless of their field (up to R$-. Part A portion of these funds is contingent upon the hiring and training inclusion of underrepresented groups through hiring and training – —see ahead). Steps will be taken toWe guarantee that our reviewing process will be transparent and fair. The executive team will have the list of reviewers (organized by proposal) and we will produce reports will be produced for all candidates whose proposals have been peer- reviewed. We will also exclude from the each candidate’s reviewing process of a given grant all scientists that who may have a conflict of interest with the corresponding that candidate.
Public access to data
We require publicly accessible disclosure of data that has been produced during the course of a grant to be disclosed through repositories offering public access. This encompasses applies to peer-reviewed articles, monographs, and computer codes, among othersetc. Our grantees may publish their work in use open access journals to publish their work or pay additional fees to make it freely available. Publication costs are covered by the grant. It is important to stress that, whenWhen evaluating candidates, we will consider only papers published after bona fide peer- review processes. Consequently, bioRxiv and arXiv will are not be considered asacceptable publications. Should If data produced begets patented, we assume that publication will be subsequent to thefollow awarding of a patent. Should If a patent be is filed, we will not claim intellectual property rights.
Code of conduct
Proposed research activities must comply with ethical principles and with national regulations. It is the responsibility of Grantees are responsible for to complycomplying with these fundamental rules. We require our grantees to respect right to privacy rights, physical integrity, data protection, non-discrimination, and the need to ensure the protection of human health. Should If grantees fail to respect these rules, we may decide to cancel our grant.
Research Integrity
We takes a strongly stand in support of research integrity. We commit to:
excluding members of our Scientific Committee from the evaluation process when conflicts of interest are disclosed;
-ensuring that adequate reviewers are picked for each proposal; and
-ensuring that each proposal is reviewed by at least two reviewers.
In cases of proven scientificof scientific misconduct (such as plagiarism, fabrication, or falsification), grants shall be withdrawn.
Eligibility Criteria for this Call
Eligible proposals
All proposals should be written in English and must meet the deadline. A proposal will be considered complete only when all required fields or sections of the application forms are completed and submitted. Incomplete proposals will be declared ineligible.
Eligible Researchers
This Call is directed to at young scientists (as defined below), regardless of their nationality. Our eligibility criteria are:
1. Candidates must hold have earned a PhD degree awarded after January 1, 2007, potentially extendedor up to two years earlier (January 1, 2005) for if they are women with children by up to two additional years. Thus, women with two or more children should have received a PhD after January 1, 2005.
2. Candidates must hold a permanent position in a university, research institute institution, or private entity conducting scientific research. This includes professors (concursados) and researchers. In the case of dual affiliation, the project should be conducted in the country of residence. This Call excludes post-doctoral students, lecturers (professores substitutos), and graduate students.
Eligible Host Institutions
Universities, research institutes institutions, and private entities conducting scientific research are all eligible. It is expected thatWe expect the research projects will to be implemented in the country of residence, although part of the work (such as field work or collaborative research efforts)they may take place partly in other countries for field work or within the frame of collaborative research efforts. Foreign partners will not be directly eligible for direct funding, and its our grants are not portable to other countries.
Funding
We will support seventy young researchers with up to R$100,000 for one year. During the first year, we will support ten Engineering projects; , six Computer Science projects; , thirty Life Science projects; , six Earth Science projects; , six Mathematics projects; , six Chemistry projects; , and six Physics projects.
At the end of this initial year, all projects will be re-evaluated by members of the Scientific Committee. ThisThe second evaluation will be based on ideas and data produced during the previous twelve months. Details of this secondarythe second evaluation will be provided to candidates at a later stage.
Through During this the second evaluation, ten to twenty candidates will be selected and funded for an additional three years with up to R$-. A portion of these funds is contingent upon the hiring and training of underrepresented groupsPart of these funds is contingent upon the inclusion of underrepresented groups through hiring and training. Detailed Inclusion inclusion and diversity requirements will be presented in detail to the selected grantees after the first year, prior to embarking the start of on their three-year projects.
It should be clear to allAll candidates should understand that grants will cover overheads and administrative taxes from both the university and the foundation(s) that will manage the donations will be directly payed off the grants. University overheads are limited to 5%, whileand administrative taxes from levied by the foundation(s) can varyare limited to between 7– and 10%. Thus, the gross grant amount award of a grant will be comprised between 85% and 91% of its the net amountaward.
We will select the best candidate At at the end of our second evaluation, we will select the best candidate, regardless of their field. There beingBecause we will be considering seven fields under appreciation, our calls will be extremely selective, our calls will therefore be extremely selective. Grants may be used only to cover project-related expenses onlyrelated to the projects. Grantees must sign Terms and Agreement documents on upon acceptance of their grants.
