The Future of Humanity and the Earth
How many people have come up with a better alternative, one that doesn’t use
fossil fuels anymore? If you think it’s crazy… just look at China and India, which
have already started using their own clean energy sources and are trying to become
global leaders. The United States is not. It’s on track towards becoming one of the
worst countries to live in globally. For this reason alone, we should learn from
them now and begin working for the best. Even more importantly, we should start
paying attention to what they’re doing right now and try to copy it. This is
especially true when it comes to protecting our beloved home planet.
Climate Change Impacts and its Effects
If we want to survive, then we must protect it. No matter where we go, there will
always be climate change; however, we can choose how much danger we face. By
making sure that we protect the environment, we would also enjoy every bit of
nature we possibly could. The question becomes why? Where does it all go wrong?
Is it only us or is it a mix of things, just like in the case of globalization and mass
tourism? Are we destroying everything that gives life meaning and purpose? Or
should we accept the fact that we’re heading toward extinction? According to
experts, humanity would not stand long against an unknown enemy on earth. So
will we? Will the earth give up on you because you don’t put enough effort into
your environmental protection efforts?
Why does Climate Change Matter?
The human race has been affected by climate change since time immemorial. Our
ancestors had to deal with droughts so severe they even created tools and methods
to help control them. However, we are far ahead of them, having developed tools
that allow for extreme weather conditions to exist. There’s no doubt that climate
change poses threats but if we manage to find a way out of our current
predicament, humankind wouldn’t be far off from another golden age. But how can
we do any better than we did before? Before looking at some possible ways of
going green, let’s first understand exactly what’s happening around us and why we
should care.
How Human Has Impacted World Ecology?
Humans have been responsible for most of the natural disasters happening to Earth.
They’ve played an important role in ensuring that these natural calamities occur as
a result of climate change. As previously mentioned, humans introduced different
species to new environments and habitats. These animals were brought to the land
by human travelers and have evolved to adapt to those areas. However, they have
also changed the way we view the world. Humans have allowed themselves to
coexist closely with various species. Therefore, many mammals, birds, fish, and
reptiles don’t make too many enemies. Instead, they live in peace with each other,
sharing resources and reproducing without major conflicts among them. Since
there is a shortage of food all over the globe, some animals are forced to consume
plants that are toxic to eat. In addition, several animals find it difficult to live
amidst others while also finding themselves unable to hunt prey due to the number
of predators around them. All this leads to a state of imbalance that results in
certain species being at the greatest risk.
What can we do to help prevent extinction?
We can prevent the extinction of numerous species by implementing proper
conservation measures. Unfortunately, they have been neglected for years and
continue falling off in terms of importance. An example of such a situation is the
dwindling abundance of bees. Today, a drop-off in bee numbers may actually bring
about a significant decrease in agriculture productivity, not to mention increasing
public health problems. Although scientists are still yet to determine what causes
this phenomenon, we have several ideas as to why bees aren’t thriving. One of the
theories behind this phenomenon is that they are facing deforestation. Trees play
an essential role in supporting the survival of honeybees. Without trees, the
remaining population might starve to death. Another possible explanation behind
this issue is climate change. With human activity constantly polluting the air and
putting carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, the amount of carbon dioxide in it
would naturally become depleted. Over time, the concentration of this gas in the
atmosphere would rise. Bees are particularly vulnerable to this type of damage as
they eat pollen from trees. Without sufficient trees to feed on, their colony would
collapse. This explains why there are fewer bees present. Most of them have
already died out, making them extinct for good. Moreover, this pollution also
affects humans, with higher levels of toxins in the air causing headaches and
coughs. All these factors contribute to the decline of biodiversity.
How Humans Have Caused Pollution on Its Way to the Extinction Point?
Pollution is the second leading cause of extinction in the twenty-first century after
climate change. From water to air, humans have done everything they could to
pollute the environment which makes us all susceptible to diseases. When humans
use chemicals to treat their crops, they release dangerous gases such as pesticides
which kill insects during harvest, preventing them from laying eggs and laying in
fertile areas. Because pesticides aren’t organic, they are taken up by bees and birds.
That means they affect the reproduction rate of both animals and humans, creating
harmful effects on them. Another point worth noting is that if humans are so
concerned about insecticides and pesticide residues harming them, why aren’t they
worried about the effect they have on ecosystems and human beings? Pesticides
often contaminate waters in rivers and lakes, killing aquatic creatures in large
quantities. When humans used arsenic as fertilizer in the nineteenth century, it
killed thousands of wildlife around the world. In most cases, it was from
contaminated sewage, although there are studies stating otherwise. Other types of
pollutants that we take for granted today include lead, mercury, and radioactive
substances. While these substances can be found in nature, there are several
examples where we take these elements ourselves, harming the ecosystem in the
process. Toxic chemicals pose the same threat as pesticides, harming millions of
organisms daily. Water contamination can happen to almost anything in the form
of industrial waste or even agricultural runoff. In reality, people only throw away
half of the chemicals that they produce because the rest is stored in landfills or
dumped onto fields that they can contaminate. Those chemicals can harm animals
and people alike.
What Changes Should Be Made About Waste Management Systems?
It is clear that humans make mistakes that result in ecological and social damage.
Their mistakes have led to the loss of countless lives, many of whom were never
heard of until now. Many governments put little effort into reducing excessive
wastage, resulting in massive amounts of garbage entering our oceans, rivers, and
lakes. Not being able to dispose of such materials appropriately has been a major
problem that needs to be resolved. At times, we forget to recycle something as
simple as paper, resulting in millions of tons of old paper ending up on beaches
where they clog up the coastline. Once discarded water and soil from farms enter
the seas, our coastlines become polluted in turn. Animals struggle to catch their
fish to feed on it, disrupting all forms of life on land and sea. Meanwhile, our
oceans suffer greatly. Every year, billions of pounds of plastic are washed ashore
by ships and boats. Plastic bags, bottles, shoes, clothing, and many other items can
block the flow of seawater which makes local islands uninhabitable. Such changes
aren’t only affecting marine life; it can also alter coral reefs and devastate coral
bleaching. Not only in oceans, but on land, plastics can damage infrastructure,
including schools, hospitals, roads, bridges, and airports. Overall, humans don’t
know how to properly dispose of their waste. If we don’t do something about it
soon, it will lead to irreversible consequences that might even wipe out entire
civilizations.
What Can We Do For Better Environmental Protection Methods?
The last three decades have shown us that drastic actions need to be taken
immediately to overcome the devastating impact of climate change. Governments
must work together, using the power of science and technology, to ensure that they
are equipped to effectively fight against harmful activities on the horizon. People
must learn from the past, learn from history and remember that we’ll be here
tomorrow if we keep losing ground to reckless environmentalists. Thankfully,
there are plenty of positive steps we can take right now to reduce our contribution
to climatic change. Let’s explore some solutions as to how we can make the
transition from humans to sustainable development.
Step 1: Reduce Recycling Efforts
The easiest and safest way to reduce our impact on the environment is to simply
avoid wasting things. We could make a difference by choosing reusable products
and switching to environmentally friendly appliances and objects. Also, it’s vital to
practice recycling wherever possible. Some popular items that can be recycled
involve cups, jars, plates, straws, plastic bottles, cans, toothbrushes, and even
electronics.
The thing is, it’s hard to keep up with the ever-growing demand for goods and
services globally. Sometimes even though these seemingly useless things might be
recyclable and beneficial to our environment, they can be detrimental to our
bodies. A few examples of the things we reuse each day include tissues, tissue
paper, cigarette lighters, styrofoam drinks containers, and newspapers. We simply
can’t expect manufacturers and retailers to recycle all of these items and replace
the packaging with something completely new. Additionally, many products and
utensils are quite expensive.
