What is a disorder?

Avoidant Personality Disorder AVPD
• People with avoidant personality disorder
have chronic feelings of inadequacy and are
highly sensitive to being negatively judged
by others. Though they would like to
interact with others, they tend to avoid social
interaction due to the intense fear of being
rejected by others.
Causes
Does not have one definite cause, includes:
• Another mental health condition like
depression or anxiety
• Childhood abuse, trauma, or neglect
• Genetics, trauma, or a physical illness that
alter your appearance beyond exact societal
norms
• Early childhood experiences in which
children do not receive sufficient love and
affection or receive intense criticism
Symptoms
It includes:
• Rejection
• Disapproval
• Embarrassment
• criticism
• Getting to know new people
• Intimate relationships
• Ridicule.
• Social inhibition.
• Feelings of inadequacy.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis is taken in account when have these
symptoms
•You avoid work activities that involve contact with
others
•You’re unwilling to get involved with other people
unless you’re sure they like you.
Complications
• Isolation
• It isn't always unusual for a
person with AVPD to be afflicted
by depression, substance abuse,
and consuming disorders
• early identification of AVPD with
next in depth intervention is
paramount.
Outlook for people with avoidant personality disorder
• People who do no longer get hold of treatment for APD can turn out to be isolated.
• As a result, they may develop every other psychiatric sickness together with:
• Depression
• Agoraphobia
• Substance abuse problems
Preventions
Although it might not be possible to prevent this
disorder, it might be helpful to begin treatment
in people as soon as they begin to have
symptoms.
