Condor K-Tact Kukri Review
Condor K-Tact Kukri Review
Do you wish to chop or cut through objects with less effort? Maybe you want to equip yourself with Condor K-Tact Kukri ( a versatile and rugged tool) like I also do while camping outdoor?
This machete is made of high-carbon steel material and was named after Alan Kay, a survival expert and the winner of Alone season 1. This knife was designed by Joe Flower (a renowned writer and outdoor enthusiasts responsible for lots of interesting blade design for Condor) as a result of collaboration between Alan and Condor. The original kukri blade, initially designed by Joe and manufactured by Condor tools & knife, was used by Alan in season 1 of Alone and after winning the series aired on the History Network, he came back to Joe and suggested that some couple of tweaks should be made to the knife, which later resulted in K-Tact Kukri.
This blade has a good reputation among outdoor enthusiasts, craftsmen, security operatives, etc., due to its history and multipurpose ability.
Is this reputation true? Let’s proceed in finding out the truth.
Below, I’ll be reviewing this Knife by curating peoples impression and the users experience, plus the product data from different sources.
What is a Condor K-Tact Kukri Knife?
This is a curving edge blade with a forward bent. This blade wide section makes it ideal for smashing and slashing objects. Although, it was reported by some users that this part wear out after long-term and heavy usage, but the other section remain unused and sharp. For precision tasks such as trimming, cutting, whittling, etc., the knife recurved part of the handle makes that easy to achieve. One can use its razor-sharp edge for stabbing and skinning of game.
The Blade
The blade is one of the important sections of this powerful tool, which I admire the most, because of its accuracy and smoothness in cutting objects. It doesn’t dull or get rust easily due to it being made of high-carbon steel material. The recurved section just about the handle allows me to perform detail works like carving with less stress due to its big size. Outdoor enthusiasts, should acquire this knife because it durable and in efficient.
The Handle
This blade handle was designed by Alan Kay and it’s ideal for medium to large hands. Although, I have no problem with the handling since its comfortable for me and I’ve a firm grip on it, but it’s fat for medium to small size hands. However, I believe the handle size is as a result of Alan's big hand.
The K-Tact Kukri handle is made of micarta and its ergonomic design makes it comfortable for me when in use.
The recurved section
This is the curved part located between the blade convex shape and the handle. I found it beneficial for doing finesse or detail works. Even, I do use it for trimming, whittling, etc., so this blade part is highly useful.
The Sheath
Condor K-Tact Kukri comes with a sheath that is made of kydex and also beautifully designed. It serves an important purpose such as protecting the Knife from getting damaged, and also features a dangling system that shields me from any harmful effect after getting it hooked to my belt and moving around camp. I find the blade easy to take out from the sheath, whenever I want to use it.
From my own experience, the knife won’t fly out by walking around camp, but when hiking or running the blade might fly out from the sheath due to its snap closure that popped open too easily with just a single tip from my finger, but what I recommend for hikers to support it with is a paracord as a prevention against the blade from falling out while hiking. Also the sheath is well stitched, which makes it to hold the knife securely.
The Weight
The weight of this tool isn’t much of a big deal. Despite being a heavy duty knife, I found it easy to use and safe to handle.
Users Opinion
Here we will be curating the users experience about this historical blade. How satisfied are the users? Does it fulfill their needs? Does it meet the users expectations like it was advertised?
All of these will be reviewed in this section, so let’s get started.
The Positive Aspect
Users have reported that this knife is well-made and its handle is made of micarta, which enables them to handle it comfortably with flare, while doing heavy chopping without any worry of slip up. People also commended the sheath that it is well-made and it also comes with a dangler that doesn’t pull down their pant (because of its lightweight) when attached to it. The 900 spine on the back of the knife can be used to make fireworks.
The Negative Aspect
The users commented on its toughness, beautiful design, good handling with flare (for medium-large hand size) and heavy-duty ability. Disappointed buyers reported that the K-Tact Kukri is not sharpen enough when they received it, until it was sharpened by them that they enjoyed cutting and chopping with it. However, that doesn’t stop it from performing heavy-duty tasks according to my experience.
Also, it was reported of not being rust resistant, but I always rub it with oil immediately after use.
