This pandemic has been an eye-opening experience for everyone in this world. It expands from a
small street vendor selling fruits to a big billion-dollar MNC that selling various products. They have
all faced challenges in this new way of living. One of those new ways is the work from home or called
remote working for most of the employees. Some see this as the future and some see this to be a
boon of this pandemic. I’m going to give my impartial view on this take and provide you with a small
list of pros and cons.
Pros of WFH:
1. Work at your leisure: Some days you’ll wake up a little late but before WFH it would
have been a death sentence. Getting permission or taking half-day off and losing the trust of
the establishment. But due to WFH, you can make it in your own time and since everyone is
in the same boat the waves are striking all in the same form.
2. Having food at the right time: Sometimes we might skip breakfast because we would be
late for work and during lunch we might have an important meeting and we would delay the
food. However, now we are working from the comfort of our own home and even if we have
cook ourselves we can do it both at the same time and take care of ourselves.
3. The Work Crunch: Some people in organizations will demand some work to be finished
in a timely manner. Sometimes they might be unreasonable and due to the pandemic
problems, they have been more realistic. Since this is the mental health issue that most of
the workers has been getting better. This does not apply to everyone which I will mention in
the cons.
Cons of WFH:
1. Unrealistic Expectations: In certain workplaces and for some roles, the management has
been asking some unrealistic expectations which are causing a lot of stress and mental
health problems for all its employees. These can be due to the project types but for some,
it’s just the WFH nature.
2. Connectivity Issues: We all have seen funny videos of people struggling with
connectivity issues either with zoom or Microsoft teams. This also is the case when you’re
having a call with the superior whether it is through voice or video. For me personally, there
are no video calls but I can feel the pain for all the people who are going through the video
calls.
3. Extended Work Time: The basic response from some MNC’s when asking my work time
is over. I’m going to take some time off is “What you’re going to do?” or “Where you’re
going to go?” So please go ahead and work for us a few more hours or few more minutes.
This is causing strain between the employees and the company.
