Effects of Seasonal Changes: A study in unemployment in tourism.
Tourism is based on the seasonal effects that are present in a subject country. This is
based upon the people’s choice to select and travel to a place for their pleasure and obtaining
maximum efficiency for their money spent.
This affects the employment of those who rely upon the travellers for their jobs. This
affects an entire cycle of the economy and disrupts the day-to-day of most of the country.
This can be further explained with the help of an example.
Example for Seasonal Changes: A case study of countries.
Case 1: Thailand
This country in the summer months would be unbearable for people travelling from
the west and loses its travellers during the month of April. Due to this they invented few
festivals like “Songkran” to both cool off and lure travellers for tourism to make the country
stay afloat.
Case 2: Russia
This country in the winter months would be impossible for travelling due to the snow
in the roads making logistics to be tough for the travellers. Due to this the people travel less
which would make unemployment high in the winter months in the country.
Example of jobs being lost: Case study on the type of jobs.
Case 1: Tour Guides
The most important part of the tourism industry is the tour guide and if there are no
travellers the role of a tour guide is insignificant and they would be the first to lose their
jobs.
3
Case 2: Drivers
The next most important part of the industry is the drivers that help you by taking you
to various parts of the country but if the supply is low this will affect the drivers and they will
lose their jobs.
Conclusion:
There is a definite correlation between the seasonal changes and unemployment in the
tourism industry regardless of the country and its world standings.
