blast from the past
The New School Complex was built in 1954 to
centralise the academic block into a common
building. Previously, classes were held at the
respective hostels of Big School, Prep School and
King’s Pavilion. The New School was officially
opened by Sir Donald Charles MacGillivray, the
British High Commissioner in Malaya during the
Golden Jubilee Celebration of MCKK in 1955.

Sdr. Abdul Malik Salleh (C’62), [Mohd Shah House], passed away on 6
November 2018 at his home, due to colon cancer. He was born in 1946, in
Pulau Pinang, and was one of the three sons of Cikgu Salleh Hussain, MCKK’s
History teacher. He had two elder brothers in MCKK, Abdullah (C’58) and
Anuar (C’60).
He was amongst the four from the 1st KK Scout Troupe to earn the King’s
Scout certificate in 1961. He enrolled for Form 5 twice, taking his MCE in 1962
and 1963, and after having completed his 6th Form left MCKK for the UK. He
read law there, became member of Lincoln’s Inn and was called to the English
Bar. He returned to practise law but after a few years ceased practice and
ventured into business. The last business he ventured into was landscape
gardening.
He had been unwell for quite a while. Upon the death of his first wife, he
remarried and was living with his family in Langkawi.
Sdr. Osman Haroon (C’74), [Ahmad House], passed away on 6 November
2018 due to complications from diabetes and heart disease. He was born on
12 June 1956, and hailed from Kg. Sg. Ular, Kulim, Kedah. He came from a
poor family, but was a bright student who became Best Student in Kedah for
the 1972 LCE examinations. He enrolled into Form 4 at MCKK in 1973.
Batchmates remember him as a mix of seriousness and fun - serious in his
studies and showed his toughness and discipline in the Cadet Corps, as well
as in playing rugby for the school. Yet he was also a source of fun and
humour and often cracked jokes in his Kedahan accent.
After MCKK, he went to the University of Derby, UK. He then served in the
Royal Malaysian Air Force from 1985 to 1995. Upon leaving the RMAF, he
worked with a property developer until 2008 and thereafter was with
Protankgrup until 2015.
The past year saw him in and out of hospitals due to his ailments, and he
finally succumbed to them and drew his final breath in the arms of his
beloved wife at his home in Setia Alam, Shah Alam. He had a daughter and
two sons.
Sdr. Megat Ahmad Zainuri Mohamed (C’75), [Idris House], passed away on
7 November 2018 at 2.51am due to heart failure. He hailed from Sitiawan,
Perak and was in English College, Johor Bahru before entering MCKK in '74 at
Form 4.
Arwah played hockey for MCKK and joined the Cadet Corps and silat. He
graduated from Cardiff University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering
and thereafter returned home to work in Petronas Gas Berhad. He was at one
time the President of PMI (Project Management Institute).
After his retirement, he joined MAPMA (Malaysian Asset & Project
Management Association) as a member, and later became its Deputy
President until his demise.
May Allah bless their souls and place them among the righteous.
Allahummaghfirlahu Warhamhu Wa’afihi Wa’fuanhu.
