Communication
Every business entity has its own individual goals. For achieving these goals, it is the basic requirement that the workers have co- ordination in the work and activities they perform. This co-ordination is possible only through communication of information, opinions and ideas and looking after the needs and desires of the workers. Today large scale businesses have large no of employees and workers with different level of specialization and expertise as well as division of labour. Smooth working of these employees requires that the management not only talk to them periodically but, also try to satisfy their needs and solve their problems. Any task that requires involvement of more than one person can only be successfully completed, if the above mentioned condition is satisfied.
To achieve harmony among the workers the business can utilize the Maslow's hierarchy theory of needs .This theory presents the human needs in the form of a pyramid. The largest and the most basic needs are at the bottom, commonly known as the growth or the deficiency needs. The most basic need is physical survival that acts as a key to motivate behavior. Then comes the safety needs, belonging needs, esteem needs and last are the self actualization needs. According to Maslow, when one set of needs is satisfied only than the person moves to the next set of needs. The human brain is very complex. There are many things going in it simultaneously. So it is possible that the order of these needs may not be same and one need dominates the other at a particular time. But Maslow, focused on the most basic motivation needs and the best order in which they can be met.
If these needs are not satisfied, there might not be a physical indication, but the person feels tense and upset. If these needs of the workers are properly looked after this helps them easily understand their job relations and they can identify themselves in a better way with the organization’s objectives.
In addition to businesses, Abrahim Maslow theory can also be employed in the teacher student setup. When dealing with adult learners it is very important how teacher transfers knowledge to the students and how much they are motivated. For this purpose, the teachers must understand the learning needs of their students. They can use Maslow theory of motivation to direct the motivation of the students and to transfer the concepts to the learners in a better way.
In everyday life the needs are physiological needs, safety, love and belonging and self actualization needs. But for a student the basic need is learning and understanding. Lutz (2014) states, “All students have basic needs to be met for learning to occur. The more needs that are met, the more students will learn”. Maslow theory should be used by the teachers to organize this need of the student at different levels. The more the levels are successfully satisfied the more the student will learn and understand. This theory can be more useful when applied to achieve the learning objectives of extra ordinary students. Because intelligent students are very different from the ordinary students of the same level. So, there learning requirements also differ from those of ordinary students. Ferris and Hedgcock (2005) state that teachers of ESL play a crucial role in bringing their learnersinto such discourses, given their responsibility for preparing their students to meet the demands and challenges for academic institution
Using this theory will greatly help the teachers to organize and plan a learning strategy and teaching surroundings for students who are at different level of intelligence.
