Notes to a contributing author
NOTES TO THE CONTRIBUTING AUTHOR
ON LANGUAGE STYLE
The quality of language used falls short of the Journal’s publishing standards
and needs improvement. Paper contains several examples of run-on sentences
and sentence fragments, as well as incorrect and superfluous use of
punctuations which present a disjointed writing and makes for a confusing
reading. In addition, sentences are written in a more conversational than
academic style. See especially page 5, lines 12-20.
ON REFERENCES
Work has several instances of statutory and other authorities incompletely or
inaccurately cited. Referencing should follow the OSCOLA method.
ON PAPER ARRANGEMENT
Paper does not contain section for recommendations. It would appear that 3
suggestions by way of recommendations are lumped in the conclusion.
BRIEF ARTICLE CRITIQUE
1.
Article made little effort to draw out the inadequacies of the laws
summarized.
2.
Paper does not comprehensively focus on pollution. Only four forms of
pollution were explained and their causes and effects only tersely
addressed.
3.
Although author tried to focus on pollution, topic still remains broad.
Pollution as an environmental problem is quite an extensive subject.
4.
Paper mentions that in Nigeria, there is problem of non-compliance with
laws and goes on to suggest that the government enact more laws. It also
suggests that the government ensure strict compliance with the enacted
laws without suggesting how to achieve this.
5.
Recommendations are inadequate and insufficient to cover problem
areas identified by the author.
SUGGESTIONS FOR AUTHOR
1.
Author may choose either a specific form of pollution or a particular
polluted region in Nigeria to write about.
2.
Author may choose to review or critique the existing environmental laws
in Nigeria in order to point out their inadequacies and proffer workable
solutions to them.
