Chapter 9: creating portfolios
Creating of portfolios is quite essential in this particular course. The chapter’s idea is how important is to create portfolios. A portfolio can be termed as a method of self-discovery and building confidence for an individual. It is quite essential tool in academic setting since a student who has a portfolio is able to do assessment of his or her progress throughout the academic period. Additionally, portfolio is crucial in professional settings as well since it demonstrates the person’s skills background, experiences and accomplishments. However, portfolio needs to be arranged in a manner depending on either it is in academic setting or professionally.
Most of the instructors in colleges instruct their students to have their portfolios as a completion of a particular course will give the learner advice on what to include: a cover letter, introduction of the portfolio and pointing out its contents; a personal reflection on what the student has learned about writing skills, having examples from the students work, several pieces of writing which have been polished, early draft with accompaniment of the final draft, and peer responses to the work. This is of great importance since it will enhance the writing skills of the learner.
This information from this chapter about creation of portfolio will be of great importance in writing my research paper. I will create a portfolio and it will necessitate knowing my progress in writing down my project. It is a skill which I will utilize to improve on the initial draft of the project so that the final project will be good. The responses or feedback which I will receive from my peers will be the stepping stone to improve my writing skills in relations to the research project. Therefore, creation of a portfolio is one of skills I will use in writing my project so as to countercheck my mistakes and work on them in each step of the research. It is recommendable skills to all my peers to learn in this particular course and especially in writing of this research project in future.
