A hostile online environment can be defined as an online media platform where people post information with ill motive if causing harm to another person. Individuals can create a hostile online environment when they post or share posts or messages which are grossly offensive.
Social or political institutions need to monitor online communication to prevent the spread of messages which can result in violence. Monitoring and policing online communication should be done with justice not to interfere with freedom of speech. However, there should be a limit to prevent the spread of hate speech. The rights of an individual should be limited in the interest of the state's sovereignty since the hostile environment can lead to psychological torture, physical bodily harm, and a threat to the security of lives. Policies and regulation should be enacted to minimize the abuse of online communication laws and punish offenders. However, these policies should never interfere with democracy.
