Things I learned as a young mom.
I thought having a child in my early teen (19) would stall my life. It’ll feel like you did not live life to it’s fullest
and you aren’t ready. Becoming a mom when you are still young is incredibly tough.
Being a young mom, I’ve always felt like the need to prove others wrong and you have to explain to the world
why this happen to me that early?
1. Raising a child is a challenge, regardless of your age: From the time you will give birth your about to do the
most intense thing in your life. There are conditions that can lead to life-threatening complications
in pregnancy.
After few years of giving birth to my first born child. I got the news that I was going to be the mother of two
little babies I was not planning, nor was I ready for.
Taking care of a child is the hardest thing you will ever do. There will be a lot of sleepless nights. But, I want to
show them that being a young mom doesn’t define my mistakes or my mothering abilities.
2. It doesn’t get “easier and Money doesn’t grow on trees: I wasn’t able to graduate from school due to my
early pregnancy. This is one of the reason why it will be hard for me and even for my partner to get a job since
most of the job requires someone who took a Bachelors Degree. Luckily, here in the Philippines there are some
companies who are open for at least high school graduates that can take do job like production operator. But, it
did not end there even we have a job as our source of income this is not enough as this as we are only
minimum wage earner which is 250 pesos a day and you need to stand all day(not even allowed to sit down
unless it is lunch break) in a 8 hour shift. It was so tiring but as a mother your vision in life will change and
you will be amazed how you can do things that you thought you are not capable of.
3. Patience is one of the best qualities a person can have:
It takes a lot of it to raise a human being. You will be surprised how much patience you will accrue when you
have children of your own.
4. I can still achieve my dreams: And I have. I was able to get our own house and also get our own personal
stuffs at home without asking any help (financially) from our parents. Right now, I am studying every Sunday
in order take care of my kids and the same time work at home this will help me to finish my course and I am
hoping to graduate this year and I am very near in achieving one of my goals.
5.Balancing a successful career and motherhood as a young woman is empowering: Being a working mother
does mean you don’t spend as much time as you wish you could with your child, but knowing that you would
be able to provide the things that they need it is the most rewarding feeling ever.
6.You will never master parenting, and you never stop learning: You will never master parenting. and you
never stop learning. You will never master the job of parenthood. There is always a new challenge or conflict
that will come and you always have to be prepared and be ready. Do not stress yourself.
7. Life will still be awesome: It may not be the same kind of awesome you are used to, but when I become a
mother I started to find the positive side of life when you see your beautiful children.
Being a working mom, stay at home mom and a student mom needs good time management and it is the key to
success but it is never going to be easy.
I may be younger than a lot of moms, but that doesn’t make me less of a mom.
Sometimes these things just happen and it is important not to dwell on it. My best advice to millennial’s, is if
you will have a chance to read this. My story does not recommend you to get pregnant early. Instead, be
inspired to enjoy your life and get ready for your future there is always a time for everything and you don’t
know what it will bring.
Thank you,
Dhee
