Dhee’s VA Journey
Hi, My name is Dhee. Oops sorry, that was my Nickname but I prefer to be called that way.
I started my career when I entered the Call Center industry back in 2012. I am a customer service
representative for a Telecommunication company and my very first account was a financial line of business.
Entering call center has given me so much to start the life that I thought will never be a good story to tell or
even to remember.
Let’s go ahead and go back to whom I was before this even started.
I am in my college days when I got pregnant early, that was 2010. I haven’t finished my studies. I was 19 by
that time. When my parents found out I am pregnant I know they are upset but there are things in life we
cannot do anything but accept it. At first, I really don’t know what to do and how can we start our life living in
a situation that we are not sure if this will work. I don’t have any idea of what job would actually fit for me
since I am pregnant. I cannot go to work. My partner was the one who started working and then we started to
live in a separate house without my parents. After I have my first born in 2011 of February. I realized how
beautiful life is. I remember what they always say that your life or even how you see life will be changed once
you became a mother. I was once a stay at home mom but I realized that I really wanted to go to work. I
started working as a Production Operator we do parts of the hard disk from different brands. The job was so
tiring and the pay is low and after taxes and all mandatory payments has been taken out you don’t have much
to take home. After few months of working, I felt like I am stuck in a job and don’t enjoy. It’s all too easy to fall
into a routine that leaves you bored or unfulfilled. I realized that the path I was taking wasn’t working for me
and that I needed to find my passion in life. Then, that was the time that I decided to find another job that will
sustain our needs for our growing family. So, that was also the time that I decided to work in a Call Center back
in 2012 was the popularity of that industry and has given us the inspiration to be a call center agent as this job
is one of the highest paid employees here in the Philippines. But, It was not easy to get it. I went to a lot of
companies to apply and give it a try. However, My dream is not that fast to come true. I have
submitted hundreds of applications and hundreds of failed results at the end of the day. Not including the
tiring moment as I am living in a provincial (rural) city and the companies for call centers are located in the
main city (urban) which is Manila Philippines. Travel time would take about 1-2 hours depending the range of
traffic.
But, I never lose my hope. This is a dream that I won’t let go. I know that even I don’t have the skills and even
the education to compensate what they need as their qualification I am willing to prove them that attitude is
also important when you want to achieve your goals. After practicing and believing that dreams do come true
when you have patience and perseverance I prayed deeply that I hope I can get the job I want.
March 29, 2012. The first day of my job as an official Customer Service Representative. I can’t believe that all
through that declined applications time will come that God’s plan is something better than you could even
imagine. I was able to develop the skills that I thought I cannot have. I am surprised that my communication
skills are way better when I first started it has given me confidence in speaking and expressing my feelings.
After that, I was able to get more jobs and offer from different companies. I also became pregnant with my
second born child. I have now a baby boy and a baby girl.
Few years have passed and I became a Sales Trainer I mainly handle Product Training and some of the
communications skills training. I am very proud of what I have achieved because this time I was able to share
what I have learned and inspire other people who also would like to be in the same industry.
Since I am already a mom of two, I wanted to be with my kids when I am working office based I don’t have
much time to see how they actually grow. One day I decided to become a Virtual Assistant and work at home. I
thought my Customer Service skills would be enough to get this new career that I want. Luckily, I met a friend
who helped me to start up for a part-time job only but it is not enough to sustain our needs if ever I will leave
my office based job and stay at home. Work at home is risky if you are not ready. It takes bravery, there would
be a lot of things that you need to consider. This decision has been on my mind for a long time. I can’t even
imagine how we will end up. While working in an office based job, I keep on submitting applications online
even I got no replies and rejections I am still remembering the first time I applied in a Call center which is very
thought one. Every day I keep on changing, updating my cover letter. I always do a research which works best
and which is not. I never stop to learn and helped myself as I am determined to achieve my ambition.
Finally, Even after I am in the process of losing my hope to work at home. After a long wait, I was able to get a
job as a Social Media Assistant. Throughout my career, I was able to get a lot of freelances, part-time to a fulltime job. I was able to have the courage to let go of my office based job and be with my family especially my
kids. This journey has given me a lesson in life that I will pass on to others who has the same goal as mine. The
right attitude will change how you look your future. Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones,
you’ll start having positive results. When you started to see your passion, You know what you’re doing,
nothing will stop you.
I am a kind of person who works hard, with commitment and persistence. Today, I am happily working at
home mom for two years and I really enjoyed and amazed at growing every day. I was able to explore the
skills I have and even earned the new one.
Strength and growth come only though continues effort and struggle.
Thank you for reading my journey and I hope this will inspire you to keep believing in yourself and never give
up.
