Modular S&T Heat-Exchangers
Modular Shell-and-Tube Heat-Exchangers (MSTHE)
Modular shell-and-tube heat-exchangers (MSTHE) are very versatile. A single unit can be
assembled into multi-module configurations in order to match a huge range of process
requirements.
I have been involved with this technology since 1988 when I worked as a Thermal Design
Engineer for a small specialist heat-exchanger manufacturer in South Africa. I developed
their unique design and selection software, and optimized a number of novel, new
technologies. I have always been fascinated by its flexibility – the heat-exchanger version
of a Meccano set. They can be assembled quickly using off-the-shelf components.
Some of their unique features include a spiral cage assembly, elastomeric seals and airgap between tubeside and shellside fluids. In later years I purchased this technology from
a large distributor which had acquired the company some years prior.
A few examples are shown below.
Single module MSTHE
Spiral cage assembly
Single-seal and vented-seal arrangements
Gold mine elution economizer and heater sets
Stainless steel crude oil heater
Comparative size for same heat-duty
Refurbished gold mine elution economizer
Unique header assembly featuring airgap between fluids
48-module process cooler
Oil coolers
