Hard Apple Cider Pasteurizer This project entailed designing a special plate heat-exchanger pasteurizer, together with the pasteurization holding tube. This was a novel application which required a fair amount of heat-exchanger design experience. This pasteurizer had 4 sections: • Regenerator - for heat recovery, • Heater, • Pasteurization (holding) tube • Cooler. Method of operation: • Hot water flowed into the heater, • Chilled ethylene glycol flowed through the cooler, • All other operations involved energy recovery Space and cost constraints are critical for this type of unit. I completed the process review (and suggested modifications), design of three plate units, and the pasteurization tube.
