Keren: (0:01) Hello Brothers and Sisters welcome back to the JW Virtual Assistance Campsite
Mentorship Program, You are now on Lesson 2 out of 10. This is Sister Keren Cajes Ame of
Port English Congregation, Batangas City and I’m here to help you as you start your freelancing
journey. I’ve been working as a freelancer for almost 13 years now and this time, I’m sharing
everything I’ve learned all this years so you could also be successful in freelancing. In Lesson 1
of this Mentorship Program, we discussed how to set-up your freelancing profiles and accounts
and I hope that you learned a lot from that.
(0:37) This time for our lesson 2, I’m gonna show you how can you set up your payment
methods so your clients can ofcourse pay you wherever you are located. There are actually
more than 4 platforms that you can use to receive payment from your clients that is 4 here,
Paypal, Gcash, Payoneer and your Bank Account are the most common methods that
freelancers use.
(1:03) Let’s start with the most common payment platform, Paypal, you probably heard about
paypal before as it is a well known online payment option. Most clients prefer paying via Paypal
so it's important that you set-up your account here, don't worry! Setting up an account is fast
and easy but if you already have your own Paypal account then you can use that in your
assignment submission.
(1:27) To get started with your Paypal account, you need to open their website just keen
www.paypal.com and you’ll be directed to their home page, if you prefer creating an account
through the paypal app on your mobile device you can also do that, in this tutorial, however, I’ll
be showing you how to create your account through their website.
(1:49) Once you are on their website look for the sign up button, it should be on the upper right
corner of your screen right beside the log in button. Once you locate the sign up button click
that.
(2:2) A dialogue box should pop-up once you click sign up and you will be asked how you plan
to use your paypal account. Click on the first option buy with paypal. When you choose this,
you’ll get a personal paypal account instead of the business account.
(2:20) You will then have to fill-out a form with all the relevant information. Once you’re done
doing this click on next.
(2:28) and then you will be asked to fill out another form make sure to enter all relevant
information and tick the User Agreement Box, that’s the last box on the form and once you’re
through with that, click Agree and create an account.
(2:44) In the next step, you will see a dialogue box confirming that your account has been
created since you're gonna use your paypal account to receive money from your clients, you will
need to link your bank account to your paypal account. That way you can easily transfer your
money from paypal to your bank. To link your bank account, click add a card to start using your
paypal account.
(3:07) Once you click on that link, you will be asked for your credit card number. The expiration
date of your card and the CVV or the Card Verification Value, if you check your atm card, this is
the 16 digit card number on the front of your card. The expiration date should be right below
your card number and then your CVV can be seen at the back of your card, it’s a three digit
number that you input to verify your card transactions.
(3:37) And then Enter your Credit Card information, Credit Card number, expiration date and
CVV as well as your Billing Address, once your through, click link card and you're also to
receive payments from your clients through paypal.
(3:54) Let’s go to their website, paypal.com and then click on sign up, always choose ‘Buy with
Paypal’, because if you choose ‘Receive Payments with Paypal’ you will be directed to a
Business account and it will cause complications and then add your country here, first name,
your legal name (not a nickname) to avoid any issues. Always use the name that is reflected on
your id and your bank account, last name, email address, password, click on next. Add more
information identification, if you have a passport, if you have a driver’s license then use that, if
you don’t have a valid id yet you can choose national id and just input any seven to eight digit
number here but it is crucial that you process your own id as soon as possible because paypal
is very strict when it comes to security and verification. They conduct random verifications from
time to time especially when you are about to receive payments, so if they require documents
from you then you would need to comply, they usually request photos of your passport so it
would be recommended to process your passport as soon as possible. Add your address line
here, click on I confirm, this one is optional, it’s not really important so click on Agree and create
an account and then your account has been created! feel free to add your card in here . Okay!
and you’re in! Go to your account and you’re all set up!
(6:42) Another payment platform that is also commonly used by freelancers is Payoneer.
Setting up an account on Payoneer is just as fast and easy as setting up your paypal account.
(6:45) To start, head over to payoneers website www.payoneer.com
(6:51) Next is click register, this the red button on the upper right corner of your screen right
beside your sign-in button, upon clicking register.
(7:00) You’ll be asked to fill out of form make sure that you select individual for the type of
account that you are creating. Then fill in all the relevant information and hit next.
(7:11) You will then be asked to give your contact information. Make sure to fill this out with your
updated contact details before clicking next.
(7:21) and then fill out the form for your security details, regarding your password for payoneer I
suggest that you use a password that you don’t use for others site also, don't forget to enter
your id number you could use whatever valid government id that you have in hand and click
next once your done filling this form out.
(7:43) Finally provide your bank account information, make sure that you select personal
account as your type of account and tick the two boxes below before you click submit.
(7:55) and you are done!! Now all you have to do is wait for confirmation email from payoneer
and then you’re all set to receive payments through the platform.
(8:05) You can also easily receive payments from clients in the Philippines through the Gcash
app. This is perfect especially if you don’t have a bank account because you have the option to
cash out your money from various payment centers like Lbc, palawan pawnshop, Cebuana
Lhuiller bayad center and more setting up your Gcash account is very easy all you need to do is
to go to their Gcash Website( gcash.com) and you can also download the Gcash app and
create an account from there. What’s good about Gcash is you can also link your Gcash
account to your Paypal account and when you do that you will be able to receive your payments
from Paypal in real time.
(8:45) now if you’re creating your account through their website just click on Register, that's the
white button on the upper right corner of your screen.
(8:55) And then you will be asked to enter your mobile number. Don’t worry if you are not a
globe subscriber, you can still use Gcash as it works for all networks and then click next and
you’re done.
(9:06) The last thing I’m gonna show you for Lesson 2 is How you can set-up an account on
wave through Waveapp. This might not be so familiar to you but wave is a credit card process in
service that allows you to send out professional invoices for free, so you could easily bill your
clients for the work you’ve done. You can easily link your wave account to your paypal so clients
can pay the invoice via paypal and you can transfer your funds from there to your bank account.
(9:37) To start Setting up your account head over to waveapp website, it’s waveaqpp.com.
Once you are on their website click sign up with Google to create your free waveapp account .
Start setting up your account by filling out this form with all the relevant information. Your
Business name is the name that you choose for your branding in our previous lesson. Select
the type of business relevant to the freelancing services that you offer and then click next.
(10:06) Since you will be using wave to send professional invoices to your clients, choose that
as your starting point and then next, is select how many customers you’ll be sending invoices to.
Also, because you accept payments via paypal make sure to select the third option for the
question, Do you accept payments online? Once your through with this choose the type of
business that you have, since your freelancer choose sole proprietorship and then click create
and send invoices.
(10:40) Now that you already have an account on wave, you can start creating and sending
your professional invoice by clicking on the first option, professional invoicing. What’s great
about invoices on wave is that you get customized your invoices so that it matches your
branding. If you are a member, I mention in lesson 1 that you need to be consistent when it
comes to your brand and your invoice will definitely one way to make you stand out. As you will
see you can upload your logo and pick your preferred template and accent color to match your
brand, once you have that all set-up, you can now click Looks great, Let’s go.
(11:21) fill out the relevant information for your invoice customer information, invoice the
payment due date as well as the break down of the fee that you’re charging. When you're done
filling all that out click save and continue and you’re done! You will be able to email the digital
invoice to the client.
(11:41) Alright I’m all about to send an actual invoice to one of my client so I am recording the
screen so you can see how I do it. Once you're logged in to your waveapps account, click on
create a new and then choose invoice. Then it will direct you into invoice creator, add a
customer which is your customer details or your client details , click on that. It will pop-up all the
customers' names that you added if you have not added your client information you can click on
‘create a new customer’ alright! so, let’s just choose my client here and click on the invoice
number depending on how many invoices you have sent to your clients, invoice state should be
today, payment due is depending on your agreement with your client are you giving him 3 days
to settle your salary or 5 days, I always put the same date and add item. You can put the name
of the services that you are doing for your client. As for me, I do Social Media Management
services for this client and then the invoice I’m about to send will cover March 5 until April 5, so
I will put that on the details. Quantity 1 and your price here should be your agreed price with
your client. Now if you are working in an hourly rate, then the quantity should be the number of
hour, so for example, if you have work 20 hours for this client add 20 and then the price should
be the hourly rate that you had agreed on. So let’s say for example your hourly rate is 5$ so just
put 5 and it will automatically multiply this to get the right amount. Just leave this blank., and
then if you wanna add messages here to your customer, I just always put my Thank you note
here. And then let’s all double check if everything looks good.. You will also see that I added my
details here, so you have the option to add your logo if you have one and then add your
information here. I have my complete name, address and my phone no. you can also add a
footer so for example, if you want to add your bank account number or any payments detail that
you wanna include you can add that in you footer or your notes, you can either add this on the
footer and add your bank account here under notes and then let’s click save and continue.
(14:47) Before sending out the invoice to the customer, you need to approve this draft first so
the invoice that we created earlier is just a draft , so you need to approve this first in order to
finalize that. So this is the preview of the invoice, looks great right?. There are three option to
send the invoice to the customer. You can either click on send invoice here and waveapps will
automatically send an email to your client with the invoice that you are created or you can get a
share link, it will generate link that you can send to your client and then then the third option
which is what i’ll always do is to click on more options and then export as pdf and then I will
attach that pdf file and send a personalized email to my client, so export as pdf, I’ll always
choose download and mark it as send, there we gio! This is my invoice and then I will go to my
gmail account and send the email to my client with this attachment. All of the invoices that you
created will be here and it will even notify you if the invoices overdue so you can send a
reminder to your client.
(16:16) Now, let’s say that client has already send their payment, oven the invoice that you are
created here. And then record the payment that they sent you. So what you can do is open the
existing invoice corresponding to the payment and then click on record a payment, right! When
you click on that, indicate the payment date, the amount and [payment method depending on
how the client paid you. Is it cash or paypal, I would always choose cash because the client
doesn't paid me through paypal so I would choose cash for the sake of being recorded payment
amount is I just put cash on hand and then click on submit. That way our records will be
updated. Now if you wanna send a receipt to your client. You can also click this and the system
will automatically generate a receipt to be sent to your client email address. If you have any
questions, feel free to reach out to me.
(17:24) Now that we’ve discussed the different platforms that you could use to receive
payments for your freelancing services, here are your assignments for the week. I want you to
create your account on Paypal, Payoneer and Gcash following the steps I have outline on this
lesson. If you cannot create a Gcash account because you’re located abroad then you can skip
this part. Once you;re done doing that, I want you to send me screenshot of your accounts on all
platforms. Next assignment is to create a sample invoice through Waveapp and send it to me. If
you have any questions and concerns regarding setting up your Payment method, just feel free
