Do’s & Don’t’s for CumminsOnan RV Generators
You can extend the life and power of your CumminsOnan generator by doing the following along with using
only CumminsOnan Green Label Parts. These parts are the same as the originals, designed specifically for
your product. Using them ensures high performance and power output along with a longer life for your
Cummins Onan generator.
Must Do’s
RV QG (Gasoline) Generators
Every 30 Days
• Clean the battery connections. If you’re using your generator in a hot environment, do it more often.
If you’re not using it, clean the connections annually.
• Check fuel quality & add fuel stabilizer.
• Run the generator. Run the generator with a load every 30 days.
• Check the exhaust system. Regularly check your generators exhaust system for damage or leaks.
Every 50 Hours
• Clean the spark arrester. If the generator is performing poorly, do it more often.
• Replace the oil and oil filter. For poorly performing generators or usage in dusty environments, do it
more often. If you are not using the generator, do it annually.
• Replace the air filter. For poor generator performance, do it more often. If the generator is being
used in dusty or hot environments, also do it more often. If you are not using the generator, do it
annually.
Every 450 Hours
• Replace the spark plugs. If your generator is performing poorly, do it more often.
• Replace the fuel filter. If you are losing generator performance, do it sooner.
• Have a tune-up done. A Cummins Service Center should complete a tune up.
Annually
• Clean your generator. If your generator is not in use, clean it annually.
RV QD (Diesel) Generators
Every 30 Days
• Clean the battery connections. If you’re using your generator in a hot environment, do it more often.
If you’re not using it, clean the connections annually.
• Check fuel quality & add fuel stabilizer.
• Run the generator. Run the generator with a load every 30 days.

Every 150 - 200 Hours
• Replace the oil and oil filter. For poorly performing generators or usage in dusty environments, do it
more often. If you are not using the generator, do it annually.
Every 500 Hours
• Replace the air filter. For poor generator performance, do it more often. If the generator is being
used in dusty or hot environments, also do it more often. If you are not using the generator, do it
annually.
• Replace the fuel filter. If your generator is performing poorly, do it sooner.
Every 1,000 Hours
• Flush the coolant system. If you are operating your generator in a dusty environment, do it more
often.
Annually
• Clean your generator. If your generator is not used, clean it annually.
Other Recommendations
• Before starting your generator, turn off all appliances
• Install a running hour meter, if not already present
Do Not’s

Run your generator for long periods without connecting it to power appliances
Try to make carburetor, governor, or choke adjustments. Make changes can void your warranty.
Take your generator to a Cummins authorized RV service and parts dealer for assistance.
