Cooperative Housing Communities Still Popular
Despite Covid-19, new housing construction in the U.S. continues. Developers in large metro areas
continue to mainly invest in building cooperative housing communities, especially for people nearing
retirement age. In the twin cities, Applewood Pointe Cooperative Communities is one example of a
cooperative housing development. The development has been underway by United Properties for
over a year with further expansions planned.
The recommendation of investing in this type of community came from JSSH Architects, Inc, a firm
with over 40 years of experience designing similar projects. The idea to use maintenance-free steel
siding from EDCO products also came from JSSH. "I have had nothing but success with steel," said
Roger Johnson, JSSH Architects, Inc. "I like working with EDCO and their products because it is
such a high-quality product which is important to any project we design."
Johnson, who is the lead specifier at JSSH, is no stranger to EDCO's steel exterior building
products. "I have had nothing but success with steel," said Johnson. He suggested using EDCO's
steel siding to reduce future maintenance costs and maintain a consistent appearance for years to
come. "We wanted to incorporate siding product that would stand up to the test of time," said
Johnson.
But at first, United Properties was not excited about the idea of steel siding. "When I suggested
steel siding to the developer, they were not convinced it was the best option," Johnson said. After
Johnson reviewed several projects with United Properties where competing products were installed
and had failed, the developer agreed that steel siding was the way to proceed.
Crossroads Construction, Inc. completed the proper installation of EDCO's steel products. "Being
able to achieve a consistent look for many years gives a project timeless curb appeal," according to
Shawn Niznik, Vice President, Crossroads Construction. He also noted it contributed to resale
value, which within the community was important.
Niznik also noted that EDCO's proprietary ENTEX paint finish is a very durable finish that will not
chip, crack or peel, and reduces energy costs. With this type of paint performance, homeowners will
never have to repaint siding, which leads to significant cost savings in the future.
As new communities are built, additional EDCO steel products will be incorporated into the design
to reduce future maintenance costs. "I like working with EDCO and their products because it is such
a high-quality product which is important to any project we design," Johnson said.
