5 Awesome Trippy Music Videos
We LOVE a solid visual for our favorite songs, but some take things above and
beyond to make us experience music in ways we couldn’t have dreamed of. Putting
sounds to images is an entirely different sensory experience compared to bopping in
our headphones while we go on about our daily business. The following particular
videos give us some especially fun sensations and cool connections between music
and video. Check out these five awesomely trippy visuals from some of your favorite
women rappers:
1. “Watch Out” - Flohio
Flohio is a really high-energy artist in lyricism, production, and performance. This
video definitely falls in line with her usual quick-paced flow. Her own persona in the
video switches back and forth from real to holographic. The lighting, images, and
movement often make things hard to follow, keeping us guessing all the way through.
The video almost feels like a nightmare, as if Flohio herself is some sort of monster
and we can’t tell how much of her is our imagination. We just know we ought to
“watch out” for her, whether she’s real or not.
2. “Bloody Mary” - Bali Baby
Ever since I first heard “Iggady,” I knew Bali Baby was a little twisted. So, in a
nutshell, the point of this video is beauties and blood. She leads as a Bloody Mary
queen controlling her subjects, a group of dangerous women willing to fight for her
entertainment and kill at her whim. The special effects feature some demonic
adjustments to Bali’s face and lots and lots of red. We also just love a good bathtub in
any video, and even though we can’t tell for sure we’d like to think this one is full of
the blood of Bali’s enemies.
3. “Mercedes” / “Call Security” - Kelow Latesha
Okay, honestly, we just couldn’t pick one since they’re trippy in different ways. “Call
Security” features an awesomely dramatic wedding scene that is just TOO good. The
special day is interjected with image stills plastered in groups of three as if it’s a photo
album, but even the images move to jump out at us like the drama itself. Some slight
visual effects give things a twinge of fantasy. And who doesn’t love a good wedding
fight! “Mercedes” fits in Kelow’s usual catalog of swag. Set in the desert with her
signature dreads pointed toward the cloudy blue sky, the video’s lighting, coloring,
and imagery round out its smooth vibes. Kelow’s carefree cool translates to the style
of the video and she seamlessly fits in with the visual effects.
4. “Guap (La La La)” by Rico Nasty
Okay, we been knowing Rico is a little crazy with her music and videos, but this one
really takes it to the next level. Rico’s main “character” is a sort of mental patient and
we see images that are presumably from her mind, many of them quite tripped out
and involving her “singing to the guap.” This video is honestly just weird and we
absolutely love it.
5. Whack World” by Tierra Whack
Okay, is this technically one music video? We’re going to just say it is. “Whack
World” is the visual for the album of the same name that features 15 one-minute
tracks. The whole video is an experience, a collection of different messages and
visuals that somehow flow together extremely well. It follows no rules or particular
story line, just a talented, versatile artist expressing herself through music. It’s difficult
to even describe this video because, honestly, you just have to watch it.
What other videos do you guys find totally trippy or just dope? Leave them in the
comments and we’ll shout you out if we feature that video in our next post!
