THE CITY OF MILWAUKEE
The history of Milwaukee dates back to 1818 when three immigrants arrived in the city and these are: the French-Canadian Solomon Juneau, Byron Kilbourn and George H. Walker. With Solomon Juneau being the first among the three to arrive in the area, though not the first European, he established a town and named it Juneautown, Byron Kilbourn established Kilbourn town on the West of Milwaukee River. On the other hand George Walker took possession of the land on the South of Milwaukee River. However, the entire region became the city of Milwaukee in 1846 with the settlement of foreigners.
The city of Milwaukee is located in the State of Wisconsin on the western side of Lake Michigan and it is the county seat of Milwaukee County. This city, according to the census conducted in 2012, has a population of 594,833 people. The city of Milwaukee also known as The Brew, Brew Town or Mil-town, according to report by the United States Census Bureau, measures up to 96.80 square miles with 96.12 being land and 0.68 miles water surface.
Milwaukee is incorporated in the Milwaukee-Racine-Waukesha Metropolitan area with a general population of 1,572,245 according to official 2014 estimates. Some of the cities found in this metropolitan area includes Delafield, Elmwood Park and Farmington to name just a few. Milwaukee is the largest city in Wisconsin 99th United States. On the hand, Milwaukee-Recine-Waukesha Metropolitan Area is the 33th largest metro area in the United States with a population 2,037,542 people according to 2012 estimates.
Milwaukee City sits on the Western shore of Lake Michigan at the center of three rivers namely: the Milwaukee River, Menomonee and the Kinnickinnic; the city, lying on the southeastern side of Wisconsin State, borders Chicago by only 90 miles by road. Milwaukee’s climatic condition could be described as humid continental climate, the weather in this city constantly keeps on changing stemming to the fact that it is situated in the Great Lakes Region. The weather changes range from cold winters and warm humid summers with the warmest month being July and the coldest being January.
Wisconsin-Milwaukee University, together with the Cardinal Stritch University are some of the best universities in the city. Besides the universities, Milwaukee City also prides in being a home to General Mitchel International Airport and Lawrence J. Timmerman Airport.
In the world of sport, there are four professional clubs that take charge in the world of sports in Milwaukee, and they include, Milwaukee Brewers, who play professional MLB at the National League, Milwaukee Bucks, who play NBA, Milwaukee Admirals, who play Ice Hockey and Milwaukee Wave who play Indoor Soccer at Major Arena Soccer League.
