BNS production is focusing to lead a culturally diverse collective of local artists to provide a

BNS PRODUCTION
BNS Production’s Mission is to inspire, help, teach and learn together as we heal and love
each other. We aspire to educate, amaze and inform through the creation of original,
thought provoking American theatre productions. We follow through on our commitment
to serving the underserved in our community.
PIONEER OF BNS PRODUCTION
Rory D. Sheriff grew up fascinated with classic film. His wide range of exposure to cinema
included Westerns, Fantasy and Sci-Fi, among others. One of his all-time favourites was
“The Big Red One”. Ironically when Rory enlisted in The US ARMY, he served and was
deployed with The Big Red One during Desert Storm.
Triple-threat Rory D. Sheriff has something special to offer for your eyes, your ears and
your soul. As a director, author and radio personality, Rory has skilfully and uniquely set
himself a cut above the rest.
Influenced by the works of Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino and August Wilson, Rory
shot his first short film titled “One Night”, and is presently producing his second stage play.
Boys to Baghdad is set during the first Gulf War, and pays homage to his experience as an
ARMY combat war veteran
Rory realized his dream of entertaining readers with his unique story telling style when he
released his debut novel, “Get N’ Serious”. Rory has since released 4 other books, including
a steamy collaboration with many other authors. On the heels of his sold-out production,
“Be a Lion”, Boys to Baghdad will soon join the ranks of Rory’s successful literary projects.

STORIES
Of our theatres
BE LION
Rory always loved the characters from the cinema classic, The
Wizard of Oz, and like so many others, he embraced their ethnic
counterparts in the 1976 film, “The Wiz”. It wasn’t until he was
older that he came to understand and was fascinated by all of the
racial and socioeconomic undertones that “The Wiz” portrayed.
He began to wonder, “What happened?” After Dorothy clicked
her heels three times and returned home, the citizens of Oz were
left with a lawless land and the imminent question, “What do we
do now?” Every good adventure deserves a second life, so Rory
set about writing BE A LION, a spinoff that depicts what became
of the Lion, the Scarecrow and the Tin Man.
Examining the character of the Lion in particular, he could not
help but draw parallels between the Lion and the role played by
the Black man in America, so the underlying message in this story
explores this common thread, as Lion begins to discover who he
really is, and who he is called to be.
With the Wiz gone, the Lion (King of the Jungle) is given the
task to become the next leader of Oz. Naturally, such a task
cannot be achieved without the help of his friends. A brand new
set of richly-developed characters blend in perfectly with the ones
we’ve grown to love, champion and root for. Lion has befriended
an African tree mouse; a loyal sidekick named Miles, as well as a
feisty, Rastafarian lioness love interest, who tags along with the
two on this journey. Lion’s mission is threatened by an ugly, evil
and devious little witch named Damneesha, the daughter of the
late, wicked witch Evilene. Damneesha seeks to avenge her
mother’s death at all costs.
Dorothy returns to Oz, and once again these unlikely heroes must
ease on down a road filled with trials and tribulations in order to
dethrone a second-generation wicked witch and restore Oz to a
place of peace.
BOYS TO BAGHDAD
Boys to Baghdad is a story that’s been nudging at the back
of the mind of playwright Rory D. Sheriff for many years.
It was only after the tremendous success of Rory’s first
stage production, “Be a Lion”, that he finally answered the
call to develop this dynamic story for the stage. Boys to
Baghdad joins many of Rory’s personal experiences with
the overlay of his creativity and writing style in a way that
promises to engage the audience and leave a lasting
impression.
Set in the late 1980's and early 90's, this coming-of-age
romance explores the challenges of growing into manhood
by way of the military, and the lifelong bonds of
brotherhood.
Right after Huey graduates high school, he joins the
ARMY, looking to see the world and make something of
himself. He leaves behind his mother and his collegebound girlfriend Tiffany. Tiffany and Huey are making
plans for a bright future together, when Huey is deployed.
The call to war puts their plans on hold, and they are forced
to adjust their dreams.
During his military experience, Huey joins with a band of
brothers who take a common oath to defend their country.
This comradery could not be formed without its
challenges. From race and religion to music and politics,
the brothers have a plenty of differences to overcome and
eventually, respect. It is this respect that prepares them to
conquer any task put before them.
Boys to Baghdad is not just a great story, but an awesome
experience. Huey’s love for God, Family and Country are
inextricably woven between the layers of love for his
brothers, and learning what it truly means to be his
brother’s keeper.
