3 Genius Tips We Learnt Backstage At NYFW
3 Easy and Effective Makeup Tricks Discovered Backstage at NYFW 2017
The New York Fashion Week backstage – designers, makeup artists and top models
scrambling about getting ready or unready for the shows on stage and fashion editors
running around trying to catch any latest trends in the world of makeup and fashion amidst
all the chaos.
It truly is a scene like nowhere else, and as much as it could be called a chaos, it is just as
much fun and excitement packed into the backstage.
For the same reason that it is a place where people are always in a rush to get ready, there
are always new and easy makeup and fashion hacks arising there. It is probably when a
model or a makeup artist dabs on some blusher or lip stain for a quick touch up of the eye
shadows before going on stage, that it becomes a ground breaking trend, ready to be copied
by fashionistas world over.
Suffice to say, that the NYFW backstage or any fashion week backstage for that matter is
definitely a place where new makeup tricks and tips get discovered, sometimes even by
accident.
So here are 3 expert makeup tips and tricks discovered at the NYFW backstage this year:
A quick smokey eye with lotion
This was a trick used by expert makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes. She simply drew some
black eyeliner on her hand and added a touch of Too Cool for School Egg Cream. Then she
dipped an eye liner brush in the lotion and smudged it on to the liner to soften it up. The
result was a smokey lived-in eye makeup look similar to the grunge culture of the past.
Another thing she did was to dab some lip balm over the eyelids of models for a glossy eye
as well.
Now you know how effortlessly you can achieve a great smokey eye look.
Lip liner doubles up as eye shadow
Lead makeup artist at La Perla, Erin Parsons who is also the official artists for Maybelline
popularized this trend when she applied dome deep burgundy lip liner on the models’ eye
lids. This provided an opaque smokey slick base for the powder based eye shadows. The
exact products she used were the Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Liner in the shade Plum
Passion and the plum shade from the 24 k Nudes eye shadow palette.
Palms for highlights that pop
Yet again seen in action by Katie Jane Hughes, she used her palms to apply highlighter on to
the models’ cheek bones. She feels that using her palms helps blend the highlighter quickly
and easily to a natural finish. Since our palms have more surface area than our fingertips it
definitely helps in blending. All you need to do is apply your favorite highlighter on to your
palms, rub together and press them on to the high points of your cheeks for a flawless glow.
