I remember every Sunday in the Sunday newspapers, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the syndicated comic strips. There was Jiggs (Bringing up Father) and the antics of the Katzenjammer Kids as well as Prince Valiant in the Sunday Times, but I was too young to appreciate the involved story which seemed too serious and detailed for my young mind to cope with…but I most certainly liked the artistic colorful illustrations. My very favorite Sunday comic strip was the antics of Blondie and Dagwood and their neighbors and not forgetting Dagwood’s crazy boss, Mr Dithers. I suppose it depended on which country you grew up in…Andy Capp and his wife Flo were definitely firm favorites and popular in Britain as was Peanuts and his dog in America. I couldn’t get enough of the Harvey range of funny comics. There were so many magnificent precious gems that Harvey brought out every month. I absolutely drooled over such wonderful cartoon characters like Little Dot, Little Lotta, Little Iodine, Sad Sack, Beetle Baily, Spooky, Richie Rich and Hot Stuff, Dick Tracy, Little Audrey, Casper the Friendly Ghost, Baby Huey, Richie Rich, Wendy the Good Little Witch, Spooky the Tuff Little Ghost and Felix the Cat. The Disney range of comics included Mickey Mouse, Pluto, Donald Duck, Scrooge and Roy Rogers to name just some of the popular favorites. Then there was the DC range of comics with Batman and Robin, Superman, Wonder Woman, Dennis the Menace, Mighty Mouse, Flash, Green Lantern, Justice League of America, and Green Arrow. In the Dell Comics collection there was Lone Ranger, Tarzan, Felix the Cat, Howdy Doody, Yogi Bear, Mission Impossible, Ben Casey, Burke's Law and Doctor Kildare. Oh, what pleasure it was to read the wonderful Illustrated Classic comics. They had everything from the Dickens Classics like Oliver Twist, A Tale of Two Cities, David Copperfield, as well as Ben Hur, Ivanhoe, Dracula and Frankenstein. I also enjoyed reading the illustrated Bible comics which brought the scriptures to life. And what about Archie, Jughead, Bettie and Veronica. All such great fantastic entertainment. I wonder if you ever saw the Mutt and Jeff and Poco comics? ….in my comic collection I also had Bob Hope, Jerry Lewis, Lone Ranger, Nancy, Abbott and Costello, Zorro, the 3 Stooges, Porky the pig, Lassie, Tinkerbell, Lulu and Tubby. And do you remember all the fantastic children’s books that we read…the best for me was Enid Blyton and the Famous Five and Secret Seven series as well as Noddy and Big Ears, Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys, the Wind in the Willows, Brer Rabbit and of course the well loved Winnie the Pooh. Some of the popular weekly British comics were Tiger, Roy of the Rovers, Beano, Dandy, Sunny Stories (not really a comic but popular children’s stories), Jack and Jill, Playhour, Girls Own, Radio Fun and Film Fun, Eagle, Valiant, Look and Learn, Jackie, Judy, Knockout, The Magnet, Mandy, Mickey Mouse Weekly, Swift, Tammy, The Topper, Twinkle, Valentine and Victor. How to cover 30 numbers on a roulette table using only 5 chips Here’s a secret formula how you will be able to cover 30 out of 36 numbers on a roulette table, using only 5 chips….please take note that the zero is not covered. It does not matter what denomination of chips you use, as long as the 5 chips that you use are all the same value or denomination. This is how you do it… Place 3 chips on numbers 1-18 Then place two chips to cover the third dozen which is no’s 25-36. The numbers that are not covered are: 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 plus the zero and the double zero. So how much can you win? If the ball lands on any number between 1 to 18, you will win 3 chips but you will lose the 2 chips that you placed on the third dozen no’s 25 to 36…in a nutshell, you will show a profit by gaining 1 chip. However, if the ball lands on the third dozen no’s 25 to 36, you will win 4 chips but you will lose 3 chips on your bet on the numbers 1-18 ….here again, you will also show a profit of gaining 1 extra chip. There is a difference between a European roulette wheel and an American roulette wheel. A European roulette wheel has one zero and an American roulette wheel has two zero’s (the single zero (0 ) and the double zero (00). Most of the time, you will be winning 1 chip for every spin of the roulette wheel. If you are willing to sit at the roulette table for several hours, you will gather up for yourself a winning pile of chips. The amount you win is up to you… If you play using $10 chips or $100 chips, you will still get your 5 chips back plus one extra chip of the same value as your 5 chips. When you win using this method, it’s wonderful, however, the danger of this method is you could lose your 5 chips that you have placed on the roulette board. So, there is a catch-up method you could try when you have lost your 5 chips, including when the ball lands on the single zero or double zero. After you have lost your 5 chips, you definitely don’t want to take a chance and lose yet another 5 chips…so what should you do? You have to play it safe and minimize your chances of losing big! Now, you should place only 1 chip on either the red or the black and continue to play the red or black until you have won back the 5 chips you have lost. At any time, if the ball lands on zero which is not covered, remember that the chances that the ball will land on the zero twice in succession are hardly likely. Even now with this knowledge that you have gained, and using this method to play roulette, it’s still a big risk and a gamble that you are taking. So, only if you can afford to…go on and try your luck, have fun but know when to stop! The world’s greatest mind reading card trick Here’s a secret formula to be able to memorise an entire pack of cards. Remove the jokers from any pack. Take the 52 remaining cards and sort them into the following order spelling out the word CHaSeD. What does this mean? The C stands for clubs, H is for hearts, S is for spades and the D is for diamonds. You should have 4 different piles of 13 cards. Next pick up the Clubs pile of 13 cards and sort this into the following order….it’s an easy secret rhyme that you must learn: THE RHYME IS: Jackass ate alive tree, King intends to fix several for benign Queen. Sort the 13 cards of each pile into the following order according to the rhyme: Jack, Ace, 8, 5, 3, King, 10, 2, 6, 7, 4, 9, Queen. After sorting the 13 Clubs cards into the Jackass order, you must now sort the 13 Hearts pile into the Jackass order. Then pickup and sort the 13 Spades pile into the Jackass order and finally sort the 13 Diamonds pile into the Jackass order. Bring all the 4 piles together in the CHaSeD order and ask someone to cut the pile several times making sure that the cut is fully completed with the bottom pile that was cut placed on the top pile. It does not matter how many times the cards are cut, because the Jackass order will always remain the same. Only if you shuffle the cards, you will change the order so no shuffling is allowed. If you want to really impress your audience, while you hold the pack of cards in your hand, ask a spectator to remove several cards (as long as they are all from one place) from any place in the pack. At the exact place where the spectator has removed the cards from the deck, take note of what the next card is….for example, let’s say a ‘bunch’ of cards has been removed from the middle of the deck and the next card in the remaining pack of cards you are holding is the three of hearts…then you think of your rhyme ‘Jackass ate alive tree, King intends to fix several for benign Queen’ and you also think of the word CHaSeD…. Therefore according to the rhyme the card that comes after the Heart is a Spades card…. Now which Spades card is it? The card that comes after the three of Hearts in the rhyme is the King ….so now you’ve got it! The spectator has got the King of Spades! Now, ask the spectator how many cards he has left in his hand and carry on thinking of the Jackass rhyme together with the word CHaSeD. In the above example, the next card after the King of Spades will be the ten of Diamonds and then the two of Clubs and then next the six of Hearts and so on. If you practice and learn the rhyme, your friends will be amazed how you are able to read their minds and call out the large number of cards that they have chosen.
