Knowing your competitors is one of the
first steps you need to take when creating
your course so you can really validate
your idea and confirm that YOUR course
is WORTH CREATING!
There are two types of online programs
you can create and although you may
end up having both in your business...
it’s important to start with just one.
It’s one thing to be excited about your
idea and receive support and interest
from friends and family... but you need to
take a look at what others are already
doing in your industry and make sure
there is a market currently interested in
what you have to offer... proving that this
is a viable business model.
Information Products OR One-Off Online
Courses are created around a one-off
purchase with an end goal... eg. a 6-week
health detox program. They are best
suited to those who don’t need ongoing
support (in-and-out niches) and are
drivenAby a strong online brand... which
doesn’t necessarily have to have a human
leading them.
Have a really close look at what five of the
best content creators (competitors!) in
your space are doing. Research their price
points and understand the details of their
programs. What inclusions are members
receiving? Where is the value in their
content? How do their courses differ from
each other? Look carefully at their brands
and how they communicate their essence,
personality and values... notice what
profile they are presenting to the public.
Membership Programs (Recurring)
programs are based around creating a
community... led by a strong leader (or
leaders). They are perfect for niches
that need ongoing support such as
parenting coaching, fitness training or
business mentoring. They work best
when you take your market on a
journey... and really benifits those who
thrive on connection and support.
Once you have this clear understanding...
you can now work out how you can be
different... and of course... how you can be
better!
Ultimately your market will decide
which type of course is best for you
when you ask... “How can I best serve
and help my consumers?”
Once you’ve decided on your program
type... you need to create your Value
Ladder! You MUST have more than one
offer or product... or else you will be
leaving money on the table!
Why? Well, there are people in your
community who will want to take another
step with you... so you want to be
prepared and have something else to
offer them!
Start with your core offer, then look at
what upsells you can include... for
example a VIP service with some
exclusive behind-the-scenes content or a
free physical gift such as a mini recipe
book if you’re selling a health program.
In addition, decide how you can add a
premium option (top level) to your core
offer... such as a ‘gold membership’. This
could mean members get top priority
support, or a one-on-one coaching call
each month, in addition to the standard
inclusions in your core offer.

Video is currently the most successful
form of engagement throughout digital
platforms. It has made online training so
much more comprehensive and clear,
as the teaching tools and techniques
are limitless. You can show live
demonstrations, draw diagrams and
combine visual slideshows with your
voiceover... to name just a few options.
To compliment your video training, you’ll
need to create some written content that
can be downloaded and completed online
or printed.
Introducing Canva!! The good news is, you
don’t have to be a designer to put these
documents together. With just a few
simple skills, you can create these yourself
with little time and often no cost.
Canva is a free online application which
allows you to create professional, quality
documents, perfect for your online
course. Watch a few quick tutorials and
you will be producing in no time! But,
follow these important rules...
Welcome to what is often the most
overwhelming step... mapping out your
online portal! Some of the most talented
and experienced female entrepreneurs
can get stuck on fear and perfectionism
at this point, stuggling to transfer what is
in their head... to their online platform.
Follow these simple tips because it
doesn’t have to be scary AND more
importantly... it doesn’t have to take much
time!
1. Map out your modules (the main topics of
your program). Reduce your list to a
maximum of 8 modules.
2. List the lessons within each module,
sticking to a maximum to 4-6 in each.
3. If you are creating a membership
program, create 12 modules as it will work
really well with an annual membership.
4. Outline the best way for you to teach
each lesson, for example, face-to-face
video, written content in a downloadable
form, or video using diagrams and slides in
conjunction with your voiceover and
instructions.
*** If you struggle to stick to these guidelines
it’s most likely because this is your Genius
Zone (your area of expertise!) and you will
want to share everything you know... but,
make sure you remember the value of what
you’re giving away and strip it back!
At the same time, video gives you the
opportunity to present not only your
brand but the personality behind the
brand in just a matter of minutes (even
seconds!)... resulting in connection,
trust, and deeper relationships which
would have previously taken so much
longer to develop. This is so valuable in
online courses as your consumers can
connect - KNOW, LIKE and TRUST
you... and either stick around longer or
come back for more!
So, list the lessons and teaching
components you can create using video
and then define which kind of video
you’ll use eg. face-to-camera,
whiteboard training, documentary
footage, slideshow with voice over....
it’s up to you!!
1. Keep your branding consistent - include
your logo and stick to your brand’s core
colours so separate documents appear to be
a part of the same family.
2. Stick to 2-3 fonts only... a TITLE font, a
BODY COPY font... and a SCRIPT font for
pull quotes or simple elements you want to
stand out.
3. Make sure your images are copyright
approved. You CAN’T just use images from
Google or Facebook but luckily Canva has a
HUGE range of photos and graphics that
you can choose from... many of which are
FREE!

There are two platforms I use to create
my online portals.
It is SO important to retain, delight and
service your customers to ensure your
business is successful and continues to
move ahead!
So with all this knowledge and
information, it’s time to plan your first
lesson. The first is always the hardest and
most time consuming - but once it’s
done... it’s just a matter of mastering your
system.
My favourite is ClickFunnels - a landing
page and membership portal builder. You
can create a fantastic membership
experience starting from the registration
areas to managing how your content is
released (all at once or module-bymodule) ensuring your consumers get
exactly what they need. ClickFunnels is
SO user-friendly and you don’t need to be
technically experienced to create a
wonderful online program!
Wordpress Custom is a great platform to
use when creating your online course ONCE
you’ve seen some success in your program
and your really making money from it. It is
slightly more expensive and takes more time
as it’s more technical. The advantage is that
the features are limitless so you’ll be able to
achieve exactly what you want to as your
business grows!

Clear communication will ensure you
attract quality customers who
understand the conditions of signing up
- and consequently, stay in your
program longer.
Here are a few essentials I include in my
business:
• A clear Product Guarantee - this helps alleviate
pre-purchase doubt.
• Detailed Terms and Conditions must be stated
clearly to confusion.
• Have a firm Refund Policy (eg. within the first 30
days).
• Under Promise and Over Deliver. We want to do
more than satisfy... we want to delight!
• Firm Payment Options - I only offer a pay in-fulloption and a two-part payment-plan. You don’t
need to offer more options than that - and of
course, make the pay in full option more cost
effective for the customer.
Most importantly, be consistent with
everything you do and make processes
and systems as simple as possible for
your customers.
Let’s get started with these simple steps:
1. What is your lesson called?
2. What type of videos will you have?
(eg. face-to-camera, whiteboard training,
slidepack etc.)
3. When are you filming?
4. Where will you be filming?
(studio, outdoors etc.)
5. What equipment will you need?
6. What are the main points for each of your
video scripts?
7. What supporting written material do you
need (if any)
Repeat this workflow for each of your
lessons so you can group your video content
together, and film multiple videos in one
session. The same applies to your supporting
documents - planning ahead allows you to
sit down for solid, focused sessions and
achieve more in less time!
