Like thousands of others, when I stepped into Mumbai, I had brought along few dreams apart from my other stuff! The largest of those dreams was to become a writer! When I was asked to write this column, my dream came true! But despite several efforts, I couldn’t write it! Whatever I wrote, seemed to be incomplete somewhere! What could be that one thing about this city to write on, that had not been talked about? So, just the night before submission, I tore my article and started writing afresh! Just in two months’ time, I developed a strange kind of bonding with this city! It has become my own! What’s the reason behind this? My exciting new job? My cozy little flat or my independence? What is it that the city has given me? Actually the answer to it was right in front me, since long! But I couldn’t identify it! As soon as I had arrived in Mumbai, I met someone! A guy! A friend! A roommate! A companion! Whatever you say! Exactly an opposite of mine! He had no ambition or goal in his life! But he definitely knew how to enjoy life! To think, I wonder the pleasure of converting my house into a home wouldn’t be this much if he were not there by me to help! I wonder that night would have been lonelier if he had not come down to share tea, and my loneliness! When I came to Mumbai, my goals were very clear! But now I know, the joy of achieving these goals is only felt when you are able to share it with someone! Now I know that the strange love I have for this city is actually for this friend! He has become my very own! Mine, much more than this city! Mumbai, as much ravishing as rough it is! While striving towards our goals, we tend to overlook several things!
