Adele And Beyonce Making Memories From The 59th Grammy Awards 2017.
The 59th Grammy awards concluded with controversy and claims of racial preferences from some critics. Beyonce and Adele contested in “Album of the Year” category that was decided in the favor of Adele.
Other categories were Record of the Year, Best New Artist and Song of the year. Beyonce was nominated in three main categories but the megastar could not achieve any. Beyonce was also not given the chance to a televised speech on the stage.
Adele won the race for “Album of the Year”, “Record of the Year”, “Song of the Year” and “Best Pop Solo Performance” categories while Beyonce was locked to “Best Urban Contemporary Award”. The Guardian reported that the Black artist was snubbed by the Judges of Grammy awards.
The source quoted Neil Partnow as saying that it is not the question of race. Neil is the boss of the Grammy awards. He admitted that the competition was tough for the “Album of the Year” award musicians don’t look racial or gender divisions.
Adele spoke humanly on the victory stand. She said that “I can’t possibly accept this award”. Addressing on the stage, Adele said while referring to Beyonce “You are our light. And the way that you make me and my friends feel, the way you make my black friends feel, is empowering.”
The Rolling Stone commented that all the Grammy voters are white and mostly male. Another factor was that Adele’s album scored a sale of 20 million copies, more than 9 million of which were sold alone in America. Voting timings, duration, season and other factors would have affected the score of Beyonce.
Beyonce’s “Lemonade” was the third best selling album in the United States in 2016. More than 6 million copies of “Lemonade” were sold in the United States in 2016. Adele won six awards at the Grammy awards of 2012.
