Table 1 shows the distribution of the respondents. It indicated that majority of the respondents were female with 65.5%, and as for age 34.75% were within the age range 18-24 years old. It equally indicated that 73.6% has Bachelor and higher degrees. Most of the respondents in the study were Saudi residents (98.8%), though about half (51.1%) were still Bachelor living in Aseer were 85% of the study participants.

Majority (92.9%) of the respondents in the study had heard about kidney donation. Of which 26.3% have ever attended kidney donation promotion campaigns in Aseer region. Out of the respondents, 30.1% had registered as a donor. As for the donation of organ/ blood / tissues, 55% of the respondents had donated organ or tissue before.
Knowledge about Kidney Donation
The knowledge about kidney donation was examined by using multiple choice question. The result indicated that that is significant correlation between gender and knowledge of kidney donation. As the p-value .011 is less than alpha value of 0.05. the male respondents had mean and standard deviation of 7.8407 and +2.75380 respectively. While female had 8.2005, +2.83616. The questions used to assess the knowledge include the meaning of kidney donation which was gotten correctly by more than 70% of the respondents as the donation of kidney by either living or dead person to a patient in need. More than 50% of the respondents have heard that there is a donor registry in Saudi Arabia where people register during their life to donate organs after death. More than half (59.6%) of the respondents knew that the least age for kidney donation is 18 years old. And the majority 73% were aware of Islamic permissibility of kidney donation. About 88% of the respondents acknowledged that one can donate one of two kidneys during one’s life to another person. But less than half of the respondents perceived that kidney donation is safe.

Figure 1 indicated that residents in Aseer had knowledge of kidney donation. The figure revealed that 13.72% of male considered it a transfer of kidney from a dead body to a patient in need as 22.38% of female Aseer residents had the same though about kidney donation. 6.64% and 5.83% of male and female Aseer residents felt is from a living donor to a patient in need. However, male seems to have more knowledge of kidney donation than the female. As 78.76 male considered it to be transfer of kidney from either living or dead person to a patient in need as against 71.79% of the female. More than half of the male (53.54 %) and female (59.91%) respondents were aware of donor registry in Saudi (Figure 2). The respondents had knowledge of appropriate age a donor can donate a kidney which is 18 years and above as responded by 54.87% of male and 64.34% of female. This however, showed that female knows the age of kidney donor than male (Figure 3). Majority of the respondents said responded to the permissibility of kidney donation by Islam and there was no difference between male and female based on the view on the its permissibility (Figure 4). Both male (89.38%) and female (87.65) knew they can donate one their kidney in their life time. Majority 89.38% of male and 87.65% of female respondents accepted that kidney donation is a safe practice.

Table 4 shows the willingness to donate kidney to a patient in need among residents is Aseer. It indicated no significant association between male and female respondents on the willingness to donate kidney. About 26% of the respondents were willing to donate their kidney, more than half (53%) were indifferent about kidney donation, about 16.5% were not willing while only 4.7% already registered (Table 4).
