Explained app concept of building instruction
library
I took 3 flows that I felt could be
improved and did user testing
Asked what they thought the graphical boxes did on
on 10 people to validate my
the home page
hypothesis
Asked, based on that, what they thought the yellow
box at the top left did
Asked them to find and open building instructions
Asked them to save a LEGO model to their account
Test
Results
My hypothesis broadly proved right, but
saving was logical and there were loading
screen issues I had anticipated
70%
70% of users found the loading bar for building
80%
80% of users paused after or questioned where
100%
100% did not know what to expect when they
90%
90% did not understand what would happen
10%
instructions confusing
the instructions were after the “start building”
pressed the first yellow “LEGO” box
when they pressed the first yellow “LEGO” box
10% had difficulty saving a LEGO set
Test
Summary
The test produced and confirmed
some useful and interesting pain
points that I could work with
1
The loading bar for building instructions
needs a cleaner communication
2
Step after “Start building” needs removing
or clarifying
3
The yellow “LEGO” box link needs rethinking,
assuming it shows all LEGO sets by year

The yellow “LEGO” box link needs rethinking,
assuming it shows all LEGO sets by year
Users didn’t know its purpose
It linked to an odd page
Very prominent position for such a vague purpose and bad link
Before
Yellow button confused users
Destination page was
unexpected, potentially has an
error
Button has prime location
NB
See Original
The exact purpose of the
button and page is unknown
but the assumption I worked
on was that it would display
all LEGO sets filtered by year
of release/availability
After
Vague button and link removed
Horizontal slide function added
Presumed page purpose of being
able to refine results by year
added to home page.
