You cannot but adequately prepare for your puppy homecoming, it is very important you have adequate information about things you need to put in place. I know you want to give your new puppy the best of treatment that is why you are here to learn more about the tasks and purchases to be made before bringing your puppy home.
Alright, now that you have been informed that your puppy deserves the best homecoming ever, let’s dive into your puppy homecoming checklist. I categorize this into two:
1. Home Task
Before bringing your puppy home, you have do a thorough check on your house to make it safe for your puppy as you don’t want to bring a puppy into an hazardous environment, some things might not be hazardous to you but dangerous to the health and safety of your puppy. Here are the list of the safety boxes you need to tick.
There are plants that are toxic to dog system, these plants need to be put completely out of reach if you have one at home, or discard them completely.
If you are on any form of medication, it is time you confine those medications to the medicine box as you don’t want your new puppy to feed on your medication.
Those electronic cords littered all-around your house, it is time to pack them off.
Keep your garbage bin far away from your puppy, make sure it’s locked at all times.
Pack all your jewelry like earrings, rings and necklaces into a jewelry box, your puppy must not have access to them because they could swallow and choke on them.
Others are local veterinary contact and make your environment free of sharp objects
2. Your Purchases
These supplies are essential before bringing your puppy home.
Bowls
You don’t want your puppy to start feeding on the bare floor, there is a need to get some feeding bowls, one for water and the other for the puppy’s food. It’s advisable to get stainless steel bowl as breakable bowls like glass and ceramics could be dangerous for your puppy.
Bed
You sure know that your new companion would need a place to rest. For the first few weeks or months, a box with blankets or towel would do the magic, after which you can move your puppy now grown a little) into the bed space you have created. Puppies will prefer an area they feel secure so the bed space should not be big.
Collar and a Leash
A leash and a collar are a good addition to your purchase plan, make sure you buy an adjustable collar so that your puppy can grow into it.
Toys
Most time your puppy is looking for something to play with, to avoid your puppy destroying your sofa or some of your shoes…get a squeaky plush toy, durable rubber toys to get your puppy busy.
Others are dog food which is very important, an identity tag, and a pet gate to keep your puppy in a confined place.
Now that you have the checklist, it is important to also get a drop trainer for your puppy. Also, introducing a puppy to a new environment could be tasking, you have to be prepared for this emotionally. In all, dogs are lovely and fun to be with pets and you will enjoy having one around.
