English; the Key to Unity
In today’s global community, the importance of English cannot be denied and ignored since it is the most common language spoken everywhere.
So, why is English an easy access to global community? English is the key to communication, without communication there is no global community.
As a matter of fact, Language is our primary source of communication.as what Nelson Mandela said “Without language, one cannot talk to people and understand them; one cannot share their hopes and aspirations, grasp their history, appreciate their poetry, or savor their songs.”
On to which I believe that Learning and knowing English has varieties of advantages.
1.) LETS BE PRACTICAL. Being able to speak English allows us to communicate effectively in different countries, and this opens up lot of open doors .in terms of pursuing work, not just in abroad but also here in the Philippines – not to mention traveling to as a tourist. You won’t have to worry about getting lost when you travel to an English-speaking country, as you’ll easily be able to ask for directions, on the other hand, chatting to the locals will no longer be a source of stress. Imagine yourself going to a foreign country without having knowledge of their own language .I guess you don’t want that don’t you?
2.) You will able to express your feelings easily. It’s somehow funny because we Filipinos tend to express our feelings using English not Tagalog or Hiligaynon. Living here in the Philippines for 15 years I tend to see Filipinos updating English Facebook statuses than those of our own mother tongue” .and also in terms of greeting we, Filipinos stick to the English language as references for example instead of saying “maayo nga adlaw sang mga tagipusuon” we say “happy valentine’s day”, why? Because it is easier saying a 3-word greeting than the 6. So in short the English language makes it easier.
3.) It brings pride in our country. It is more comfortable for the foreigners to go to a country that speaks in English. And the Philippines are a part of the English-speaking country. It’s awesome to hear foreigners loving our country not just because of the tourist spots here but also because of the people, the hospitality, the humor the positive attitude and also because of the capacity of us, Filipinos to speak in English, it brings out friendliness in us. Even you will hear “kanto boys” speaking English on the streets.in that sense foreigners will not be having any trouble roaming around the country.
4.) Being able to speak in English brings us the opportunity to encounter “unity” you might wonder “it’s just a language? Why does it brings unity? Because to be able to have unity, we all must have one voice, now Im not just referring to our own country but all over the world, we may have different colors, different faces, different personalities, but if we have one voice, it makes us one, and it creates unity .so raise your voice and be proud, because every voice brings us 1 step closer to changing everything. But I know you’re wondering how…
5.) How? Don’t make the labels as an alibi. They say that Filipinos are dumb, ignorant, Labels are just labels, don’t be afraid to speak! Just because of those labels. who we truly are is not base from our skin but who we truly are is found, inside, you can be black without being hated, you can be white without being discriminated, I may go out to the point I may be talking about racism here but I believe that in order to have oneness In order to persuade all over the world that English is an easy access to global community we must have confidence. By confidence, I mean, believing yourself.
So to sum up,” An easy access to global community is confidence”. And English is the key to unity!
