article Review About feminism
Feminism has upgraded the status of society by its concept of women empowerment. Ana
(2019), in her study, indicated that women, especially single mothers who have lived their life
independently and worked hard on raising their children want to make their daughters more
capable and independent. This research indicates that when the women have accepted the picture
created by society for them then they feel comfortable. They go against feminism because they
feel threatened to lose their make-believe identity. Therefore feminism frees women from the
gender roles and identity given to them by men along with society. Having an open -mind allows
them to think bigger than what they are thinking. Their goals are higher and without any
constraints. Women have been putting themselves in a shell for a long time due to society which
often prevented them from achieving the best that they can.
For women, it is important to understand their position in the world. It is especially
necessary because they have shut their eyes from their desires for a long time. Weisman (2017)
indicates that the Feminist standpoint epistemology improves the condition of women in any
society by raising awareness among them. When women are allowed to live their lives and
choose the experiences then that assists them in creating the reality for themselves and
understanding the world from their own perspectives. Having their own paradigms to look at the
world is how they get to know their position in the world. Such theories of feminism help in
targetting the root cause of injustice with women. The inequalities women face due to faulty
hierarchies need to be tackled and feminism has played its role in that. Feminism has assisted
society in finding the inequalities to solve them.
Florence Nightingale is an exemplary figure of history. She is often depicted as an icon of
Feminism. As Hogan -) indicates in the study the act of Nightingale can be considered
heroic and worthy of appreciation as part of a feministic act. However, it also indicated that
feminism does analyze the personality of each individual based on their actions. If a woman is
doing something which is not understandable in the modern world does not indicate that her
efforts for that specific task get modified. Nightingale was the first and one of the only three
women who have gotten a chance to feature on British currency in 1975 (appearing on the
10-pound note). Furthermore, it also poses a question about women and why are they usually
invisible. History is full of capable men who have made phenomenal accomplishments however
the same page includes the names of close to no women.
Feminism has contributed to society by penetrating the domain of business as well. For a
long time, men have been the handlers of the business. Even now, men are considered more
interested in business than women. The main reason for this is the exposure and opportunities
provided to men as compared to women. Feminism has allowed women to stand up for
themselves and enter each domain including the business. Harquail (2020) in their book implies
that there are various obstacles that women have to face while working in an organization. Those
obstacles keep the women from achieving their true potentials. Bringing equality to the table and
openly talking about it can help women in achieving a better status in the business sector.
Feminism offers various approaches through which society can make it easier snd convenient for
women to do business.
Feminism has also played its role in evolutionary psychology. Buss indicates in their
research that the evolutionary changes which women have faced over time have changed many
things. The feministic perspectives explain how to tackle the changes that women have faced
over time. Feminism gives importance to the sexual orientations and desires of women which
have gone unnoticed for a long time. This supports the sexual strategies through which women
can feel more alive. Furthermore, it also explains the evolutionary standards of beauty. Feminism
contributes to the changes in sex roles in society. Women have started realizing and
acknowledging their own rights which have affected their sex roles. There have been certain
evolutionary changes in their bodies which can be explained by feminism. Many women these
days are single women and the rate of infertility is increasing as well which used to be
stigmatized earlier. Feminism has justified this as normal and is removing the stigma around it.
Feminism improves the status of women in society by highlighting the conditions of
women in society. Khatami (2019) indicates that women are not given as many opportunities in
the workforce as men. The case is similar for men which often creates an imbalance in the
overall situation. The imbalance in society based on gender invokes both hatred and feelings of
lower self-esteem among each gender. This issue can be tackled if the highly intellectual males
and females in each organization are educated about the women in society. Being aware of the
needs of the women can help the people in understanding their overall situation. When men are
made aware of the struggles that women have to go through both inside and outside the
workforce, they try to have an understanding of them. Feminism induces a level of understanding
among each gender regarding human rights.
Feminism gives importance to the crimes related to women since they always go through
more issues. Domestic violence, sexual harassment, acid attacks, FGM (Female Genital
Mutilation), and many more crimes are taking place against women. Feminism highlights such
cases and demands justice for this. The femicide which women have to go through every now
and then living in the patriarchal society is a major issue. Feminism condemns the actions of
people against women. A femicide is a brutal act that was never given much importance to for a
long time. Until feminism was introduced. Feminism changed things in society by not only
criticizing femicide but also provoking the legal jurisdictions to take legal actions (Howe et al.,
2019)
