Solar
Hey Guys, today in this case study I am going to share with you my expertise in
Facebook ads for a solar niche.
There was a client in California and Arizona who was looking for expert media
buyers that can generate a good volume of solar leads and most importantly, prequalify leads in this competitive market.
My client had a bad experience with Facebook leads with the person who was
working for them. He was spending thousands of dollars each month but not
getting good leads for them. My client showed me their results before starting with
me. I was shocked to see how terrible it was, and I think you will agree …
Before Result
5 leads in $213.24… It means a whopping $42.65 per lead cost!
It’s money and could be replaced. But the frustrations on the cost, add to it the
realizations that 3 out of 5 are not homeowners, and the remaining 2 are not
properly qualified for the solar program, pushed my client to almost give up on their
hope in Facebook marketing. No leads are ever good to convert.
After 5 days when I started working on it…
In five days I have generated 50 leads for my client and my cost per lead is $0.83.
You may be thinking, are they qualified?
Glad we share the same doubts, so I hurried and asked my client about it. And I got
his awesome ‘Yes’. There were 5 out of 50 that confirmed for the offer.
You see, there is not much effort and talent to do this.
I just focused on basic things and the results are here.
I thought it was only luck for the Arizona group, but the same happened with our
next campaign in California.
I was able to generate 18 leads on my first day with the lead cost of $0.73. I have
used a $20 daily budget for it, which is not too big for solar. Some other marketer
would suggest you set $30 a day, but I think $20 is a nice budget for this, and I have
proven it works!

I want to share with you a great quote that he said about me after my work to boost
my enthusiasm.
“A brand for a company is like a reputation for a person.
You earn reputation by trying to do hard things well.”
My Step-by-Step Work Process
As an expert media buyer, first and most important, is knowing what you want to do
and to whom would you like to do it.
In my case, I want to generate quality leads for the clients in Solar niche.
Lead generation means knowing who are interested to see your product and are
willing to buy it.
This is one defining point for making any campaign either a success or a failure.
Initially, I don’t have any previous customer data for targeting the audience, so I
started from scratch.
Audience: As I told you, I don’t have any previous data, so I started with interestbased targeting feature of Facebook.
I used all the keywords for my targeting which is related to Solar like solar, solar
panel, solar power, solar energy … etc., but there is a problem to move on with. I am
doing the same audience targeting as others do. So I had to go with a different
strategy to get better result.
Pro Tip: Target those audience that your competitors are not targeting.
Budget: Budget is second most important part to grow your campaign and even to
defeat your competitors ver y well.
You know what, Facebook is auction and millions of people ever y day take part of
this auction. Some of them use good budget, some of them play on average, and some
of them are satisfied with low budget.
In my case, I was allowed to use a maximum of $15 per day for my campaign. But my
competitors are using more than that, even $20 or more than $30. I believe that
budget is not the only essential to win this auction. So I went with $15 a day.
Pro Tip: If you do nothave a budget issue, you have to go extra mile from your
competitors, like you can set $21 if your competitor are using $20.
Creative part of my ad: This is my all-time favorite function of the campaign and
one of the main areas that is needed to be excellent.
What you see is on sale …
Have you heard about this? Of course yes!So, I have worked hard to make my ads
looks more attractive and better.
There is no need to have an extra high-level skill. You just need to know few basic
things, like what you are going to offer.
1. Use high-definition (HD) Images for your ads. It would be good to know the
requirements of images for Facebook Ads.
2. Your images or video should tell about your ads.
3. Focus on the pain points of your audience and show them the solution to their
problem.
4. Your call-to-action should be clear for your audience.
Pro Tip: The Headline of your ad plays a major role in your ad. Tr y to be more
specific and test various kind of hook in your ads (at least 3–5 variations). For
Example: Learn how you can reduce your electricity bill as little as $30/month.
At last, I want toshow you my winning ads. Ready?
You may be thinking that I am talking about solar but why in this ad you cannot see
any solar image?
Yes, I will call this an ugly map ad. But this map had generated 100+ leads with
ver y minimal ad spent. The curiosity on this map worked for me. This map put
emphasis on the location that we are targeting. Quite a trick, right? I got more than
2% CTR in this ad.
And last but not least the main question arise here is…How my client would knowthe
number of leads that are coming every day and how can I send these leads?
The key is automation.
There is an automation software which has been ver y helpful in our work, it is
called Zapier. We have to connect our Facebook account with Zapier and connect
with my client Google sheet. When a leadcomes in, it is redirected to my client
Google sheet, and then my client gets an instant notification about the new lead.
Few Points that you need to understand in the whole
process…
1. Before starting any campaign just go for testing first. Don’t think and guess about
your audience. Testing give you real time data and let you know which works best or
not.
2. Avoid variations with campaign too early.
3. Just be patient and let Facebook do its work.
4. Focus on proper optimization of your campaign.
5. Wait the right time until you find your winning ads and then scale your campaign.
