The State of Georgia has a massive Signifance in the historical landscape of America,
Named in Honour of king George the second of Great Britian, georgia became a colony in the seventeen hundreds,
It was founded as a haven for the poor and needy by James Oglethorpe in 1732 situated in Savanah, but his dream did not quite go as planed,
As his desire for philantrophy was overtaken by the political and Economic interests of The British forces for the newly discovered continent
It was annexed into the newly formed Colony
and later designated as the state of GEORGIA on january 2nd 1788,.
Becoming famous for its inland cotton plantation and rice farming along the coastline, the region was notorious for enslavenment and subjugation of natives, eventually defeating the goodwill and philanthropic desires of its original founder to the desmay of natives and minorities.
The coast of Southern Georgia is another major factor that we would need to consider,
because despite its rich economic potential, its location in southern Georgia has not made any difference in meeting the population gap created by the massive population of the Atlanta metropolitan area where millions have trooped to over the years.
Georgia has remained a significant region in American history, the region was initially against the independence from british rule, due to its strategic location and vulnerable positioning,
Eventually it became the battle ground for many conflicts which occured across the coastline during the war...
During the American Revolution, the state of Georgia remained a dominant region in the south but it eventually lost territories which became the Mississipi area and the State of Alabama.
This has made the present state of GEORGIA an iconic location for true American southern culture, Georgia is seen as emblematic of the south in todays America.
But despite the vast beauty and diversity in this southern State only one area of this region, enjoys the rich patronage of locals and visitors,
The region being the Atlanta metropolitan area.
Atlanta itself is the Economic powerhouse of the south,
This no doubt has made it a centre of attraction to all georgians who troop to this metropolitan area with hopes of access to a higher standard of living and welfare services.
Atlanta boast of massive industrial and Corporate headquaters like Cocacola, Delta, UPS, Equifax and even CNN,
Corporations which attracts thousands daily into the region, regardless of these, Atlanta is also a major transportation hub, a factor that has increased local economic activties across boards, and given rise to its 6.2 million population from a state which is a little above 10million in population.
despite its booming Economic sector, the historical context of Atlanta's creation cannot however be overlooked as in the 1830s Atlanta was designated as a region to be selected to be a Railway terminus, opening it up to development and industralization, this created an environment with urban development oppurtunities and employement hence the massive population influx and growth that followed,
But other parts of Georgia due to certain factors just could not keep up with the pace of ATLANTA'S growth and development,
For example, in the south west of Atlanta, the majority of inhabitants have always been involved with Agriculture, which despite its usefulness just could not provide the means to support and develop an urban environment in the class of the Atlanta metropolitan region, which developed due to investments in industries and technology,
To the North of Atlanta, the
Natural formations of mountains and hills alone, already impeded the livability of the region and hence affected the rate of developments of such areas further leading to the migration of occupants to the Atlanta region, due to the need to access better healthcare, Education ans welfare facilities
Even down to the Coast lines where the Oldest city in Georgia is located,
Savanah has been a historical city in both American and world history,
But its Geography and many other factors have prevented it from catching up with the development of the Atlanta metropolitan region,
Savanah has a complicated coast, its extensive marshlands and barrier islands all impede and pose serious difficulty for development activties, making Atlanta a more situable option for investors seeking industrial project locations and facilities.
But apart from this difficulty caused by Savanah's unique geographical make up with regards to urban development, there is again the issue of its historal Economic dependence on Agriculture that stand as its major weakness against the Atlanta metropolitan region which has moved past its Economic depedence on Agricultural production activties.

Agriculture has always been the bane of Georgia's Economic activities, stretching far back to the time of the native Creek, Cherokee and Seminolee tribes who inhabited the mountains and lush forest and plains of Georgia and traded among themselves and later with Europeans
But with mordenization, Atlanta has established itself as an Economic hub, ever since it was designated as a railway hub in 1830, almost 100 years after the founding of Savanah,
The coastline regions also suffered economic setback during the civil war, which affected its growth and population.
The historical, factors economic disparity and the unique position and structure of the Atlanta metropolitan region give quite a clear pictures of why the Southern part of the state of GEORGIA remains widely underpopulated and rural,
although there is potential in many of the urban regions of the state of Georgia like Savanah, Augusta and Macon, with Population in the hundreds of thousands, the significant gap in sheetime.pulation and development evident in the Atlanta metropolis is one that would require a massive investment of both resources and time to even come close to.
And with the desire for a better access to social services and amenities which is required by both citizens and immigrants, it is clear that there is going to be continued influx of more people into the region of Atlanta due to the avaiability of adequate infrastructure and urbanization to meet the need of the growing population,
However with this said there is still a chance that with more government investment in the coastline areas, there would be a shift in development across southern Georgia and just maybe one of such regions would be become the next hub of commercial activties in the south but for now
Atlanta is still probably going to spend a long time as the iconic Economic powerhouse of the south as it has been for many years without competition or slack
