Introduction Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University is a public institution established in 2012, it has three campuses and many colleges are affiliated with the university, its main campus is located in Shaheed Benazirabad and the other two sub campuses are in Naushero Feroze and Sanghar. It has two faculties including faculty of science and technology and social sciences. In science and technology they offer following subjects: Information Technology, Chemistry, Molecular Biology and Genetics, and Statistics while in faculty of Social Sciences, Education, English, Sindhi, Business Administration, Economics, and Media & Communication Studies are offered. SBBU also has gymnasium, auditorium, computer lab, library, mosque, canteen, and hostel facilities. Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, Shaheed Benazirabad has a well-furnished library having almost five thousand collection of books, and research journals on different topics. The library provides seating capacity of more than three hundred students and well-equipped functional spaces where the students can learn and seek knowledge. Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University’s library is under the supervision of Mr. Muhammad Ramzan Channa (Deputy Librarian), Mr. Shahid Abbasi (Assistant Librarian), and Mr. Muhammad Hussain Bhatti (Clerk). Despite, having a little staff it provides all the upgraded research journals, books and also offers facility of e-library. [CITATION SBB12 \l 1033 ] 1.1. Statement of the Study This research aims to discover the library of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University to know about its books collection and facilities offered to the consumers. There are some major issues which every library faces: security, budget, resources and acquisition of modern resources. There is no such study conducted over library of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University because of that very little ratio of consumers is familiar about the library and its authorities. This is the reason behind researcher’s interest in carrying out research on Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University’s library. 1.2. Significance of the Study The research will be a contribution in the field of library sciences. It will be beneficial for the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University’s reputation and help out other researchers who are aiming to work under the same domain. Also, the research will evaluate the status, budget, activities, collection and other resources of library and suggest some modifications to the authorities for the betterment of the library services and consumer experiences. 1.3. Objective of the Study The basic aims of this research are given below: To find out the current status of library To ascertain the budget of library and provided resources by the authorities To find out nature of collection in terms of need and demand of user To recommend the measures for the betterment of the library 1.4. Research Questions What is the current status of library? What is the budget and resources of library? What is the consumption rate of library resources? 1.5. Research Methodology The research is based on quantitative and qualitative method, all the data is collected from authentic sources such as interviews, questionnaires, research articles, books, official websites, library authorities and students. The research has conducted through interviews and surveys of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University library authorities. The researcher has visited the library and interviewed deputy librarian (Mr. Muhammad Ramzan Channa) and other staff to collect the information regarding the library material, budget, and facilities which will be discussed and discovered in the thesis work. Moreover, some recommendation will be given to the library authorities to improve the structure of library and make it more excessive for the consumers. CHAPTER TWO 2. Overview of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University (SBBU) Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University Shaheed Benazirabad is a government university established in 2012 at SP Chowk Nawabshah, later on in 2017 it got shifted to Civil Lines Nawabshah. SBBU has three campuses also the colleges of districts like Nawabshah, Dadu, Sanghar, Naushero Feroze are affiliated with the university, its main campus is located at Civil Lines Shaheed Benazirabad while the other two sub campuses are in Naushero Feroze and Sanghar. Professor Dr. Amanat Ali Jalbani is the vice chancellor of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University Shaheed Benzirabad under his supervision university offers two faculties, faculty of social sciences and science and technology. The university is offering many other facilities for the students at quite reasonable fee structure. It has mini bus service to travel within the university premises and two parking lots, one for bike parking and other for car parking. SBBU also has gymnasium, sports complex, auditorium, computer lab, library, mosque, canteen, parking facilities, first aid center, ambulance and hostel facilities. 2.1. Introduction to Faculties Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University offers undergraduate and master degrees in two faculties: faculty of science and technology and social sciences. The university has well qualified teaching as well as administrative staff to keep the institutions vision and reputation alive. Currently SBBU has ten programs to propose: 2.1.1. Faculty of Science and Technology Dr. Liaquat Ali Zardari is the dean of Faculty of Science and Technology and following departments are functioning under the faculty of Science and Technology, in science and technology they offer, Information and Technology, Chemistry, Molecular Biology and Genetics, and Statistics undergraduate and masters programs. 2.1.2. Faculty of Social Sciences Professor Dr. Tayyaba Zarif is the dean of Faculty of Social Sciences and following programs are offered under her supervision in the faculty of Social sciences, Education, English, Sindhi, Business Administration, Economics, and Media & Communication Studies. Disciplines offered at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University The university offers degree in 12 undergraduate and 3 graduate programs, its admission system is yearly, SBBU announces admissions for main and sub campuses in September or October of every year. As per the stats till year 2020, approximately four to five thousand students are enrolled in the University. Introduction to Library Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University Shaheed Benazirabad’s library was established in 2012 at SP Chowk Nawabshah and in 2017 it got shifted to current location, it is located at around 300 meters away from the entrance gate. Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University’s library is under the supervision of Mr. Muhammad Ramzan Channa (Deputy Librarian), Mr. Shahid Abbasi (Assistant Librarian), and Mr. Muhammad Hussain Bhatti (Clerk). The library is very well-furnished having book security gate and reception desk at entrance to facilitate the students, and a vending machine is placed in the corridor for refreshment. There are fifteen rooms in the library, eleven rooms are reserved for study material which is specifically arranged in shelfs according to their department while the other five rooms are divided into research journals room, discussion room, computer lab and two rooms are for the library administration. The deputy librarian has watch over every activity inside library building through installed CCTVs. 3.1. Budget and Infrastructure A budget is a financial statement of the estimated revenues and expenditures of an institution for a definite period of time. It is not only a financial estimate of income and expenditures for a stated period but also in the words of Wilson and Tauber, it represents a logical, comprehensive and forward looking financial program for the coordination of the activities of the various financial divisions of the library or organization. [ CITATION Joa94 \l 1033 ] The current building of the library was established in 2017, the budget of 57 lac rupees was assigned for its development in 2017. This budget has covered the expenses of library building, furniture, books, salaries and all other facilities provided in the library. Later on in 2018, 27 lacs and in 2019, 20 lacs and in 2020, 15 lacs were sectioned for the betterment of library in terms of study material, infrastructure, furniture, library upgradation and library digitalization. As per the information given by the librarian there is no such budget announced for library for the year 2021 yet due to economic crisis in the country caused by pandemic situation. Library Committee The library committee is involved in library services and helps out the librarian in finding and fulfilling library needs. The library committee also studies the instructional research and service programs of library and advices general policies, development of resources and activities of library as well as of the university. The library of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University also has a library committee which works for the improvement of studies and environment of the library. Library Membership The library follows the common process to provide membership to the students, every student has to fill a form provided by the librarian of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University. Students are required to give basic information, a photocopy of university card, 2 photographs to get a membership card. The membership card holders can access the library material and borrow books from the library, there are almost thirty five hundred (3500) students who have membership of the library. 3.4. Library Staff The library of SBBU, Shaheed Benazirabad has a short staff including Mr. Muhammad Ramzan Channa (Deputy Librarian), Mr. Shahid Abbasi (Assistant Librarian), and Mr. Muhammad Hussain Bhatti (Clerk). Despite, having a little staff the library is working properly and providing all the facilities to their consumers effectively. Acquisition of Materials The library acquires and selects the material according to the need of students and syllabus, also the library selects the material with suggestion of Library Committee, VC, Head of departments, Director of Finance and selection team created by library authority. The selection of material is based on the reviews of specialized people of every subject and area. The library collects all the material from different sources such as; book exhibitions, gifts form publishers or authors, magazines, students’ researches, scholars’ researches, newspapers etc. Acquisitions: purchasing materials like books, electronic resources, videos, games, etc. for a library Collection Development & Management: the selection of materials acquired by the library based on type of the library, mission, and audience. Cataloguing: the description of materials in the library providing access for users and staff through an online catalogue Classification: The process of coding and organizing educational materials subject wise is known as classification. In Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University’s library all the books are classified using Dewy Decimal Classification Scheme.[CITATION Muh20 \l 1033 ] 3.5.1. Accessioning Accessioning is the process of adding new materials to the library collection. Accession Register is official stock record of the library. It contains columns of accession number, date of accession, author, title, edition, place of publication, publisher, year of publication, pages, vendor, bill number and date, price, date of withdrawal and remarks, etc. Image 2 ACCESSIONING REGISTER 3.6. Library Collection The library of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University’s collection contains books, research articles, journals, magazines and reference books related to every field of education offered in the university. 3.6.1. Collection of Books The library has acquired around six thousand (6000) books for the library by November 2020, all the books are related to the disciplines and courses which are being taught in the university. List of Journals The library of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University has a separate journal room, where students can find well-reputed national and international research journals. The library has the subscription of around forty (40) different journals which cover wide range of subjects and topics. Newspapers The library have acquired Urdu, English and Sindhi newspapers on daily basis, there is a desk in library premises for daily newspapers which everyone can read. Digital Library The librarians have managed warehouses of documents by acquiring, cataloguing, and classifying books, journals, and other materials, and circulating them to their clients for years. But the library automation have empowered the new breed of information professionals to select, organize, retrieve, and transfer the actual information effectively and efficiently to the users. Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University also provides the facility of accessing the study material on electronic devices. The SBBU’s internet network is a local area network (LAN) which works only within university premises; students cannot use E-library or university internet out of campus. The internet facilities are provided by Higher Education Commission (HEC) which gives access to more than 1 lac eBooks to the pupils connected to the university’s internet network. In this pandemic situation the library material was not accessible to the students, to encounter this issue Mr. Muhammad Ramzan Channa (Librarian) created a Facebook group to provide free e-books to the students. Mr. Ramzan Channa himself operates this social media group and provides the demanded material to the students in electronic format and also guides them. ProQuest Dissertations & Theses ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global is the world's most comprehensive collection of dissertations and theses from around the world, spanning from 1743 to the present day and offering full text for graduate works added since 1997, along with selected full text for works written prior to 1997. It contains a significant amount of new international dissertations and theses both in citations and in full text. ASTM The ASTM Standards & Engineering Digital Library is a vast collection of industry-leading standards and technical engineering information. It covers a broad range of engineering disciplines, including aerospace, biomedical, chemical, civil, environmental, geological, health and safety, industrial, materials science, mechanical, nuclear, petroleum, soil science and solar engineering. EBRARY Ebrary offers a wide variety of multidisciplinary content. It acquires large number of titles from leading academic publishers. It will be able to access Freedom Subject Collection from ebrary. The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) is the largest professional society in the world for professionals in the field of operations research Springer Link Springer Link provides access to 503 full-text Springer-Verlag Journals and 738 full-text journals formerly published by Kluwer Academic Publishing. Taylor & Francis Journals Taylor & Francis has grown rapidly over the last two decades to become a leading international academic publisher. More than 1000 journal titles in a full range of disciplines. Wiley-Blackwell Journals Since the Blackwell-Synergy merger with Wiley-Interscience, all the journals available to HEC consortium are now available through Wiley-Interscience. Online database containing over 1,234 journals in science, technology, medicine, humanities and social sciences. CHAPTER FOUR 4. Findings and Recommendation The researcher has gathered all the data related to Shaheed Benazir University of Shaheed Benaziabad and its Library through proper channels and interviewing representatives of the library. This chapter provides the findings of research and will recommend some possible amendments and development in the library to make it function more smoothly. Despite having low budget and little staff the library is working properly and facilitating student and consumers effectively. During this pandemic issue the physical consumption of library material was limited and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University does not have a proper digital library to offer the material available in the library, though they have to offer HEC’s E-Library. To provide the subject related material or material suggested by teacher of the University, Deputy Librarian (Mr. Muhammad Ramzan Channa) started facilitating students as well teachers through social media channels. 4.1 Findings The Library has separate rooms for the books of every specific department, research section, discussion, computers and reference section. A Reception desk at the entrance to facilitate students, issue and return books and provide library cards. The library’s walls are of multiple colors which can be catchy to eyes and give attractive look, but experts suggest that the library should be painted white which is proven to be healthy color for books. The Library has Six thousand Books, Forty Journals, Ninety Magazines and Eight Newspapers of Sindhi, Urdu and English Language to facilitate their consumers. The SBBU’s digital library gives access to the e-books available in library also more than One lac e-books of HEC library The Librarian has created a Facebook group to provide study material to the students in soft form in pandemic. The library has a book security gate, CCTV monitoring and a security guard to maintain the decorum of library There are Seventeen, 7th Generation upgraded computers in the computer room for students’ use. The university uses PEARL internet network provided by Higher Education Commission, which has MAC security, students have to provide IP address of their electronic devices to get access to internet. Vending Machine is placed for refreshment for students within the library premises. 4.2 Recommendation The researchers have visited the library and keenly observed each and every little thing of the SBBU Library, there is nothing wrong with library infrastructure, collection, administration or facilities. But there are some changes to be carried to give books as well as students a healthy environment. Also a lot of work is required for library digitalization to provide students access to their course books even at comfort of home especially in this pandemic period. The SBBU authority should work for library automation and digitalization to facilitate consumers with electronic books. The library should use dark curtains to save books from the damage caused by rays or light and imply precautions to increase life of books and build a fumigation chamber to protect damaged books. The authority should paint whole library with white color because white absorbs less light which helps books to not get damaged. CHAPTER FIVE 5. Conclusion The final chapter contains an overview of the research, the research is based on Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, Shaheed Benaziabad’s library, which is under supervision of Mr. Ramzan Channa. The research is carried upon quantitative and qualitative approach, the researcher has visited the library and interviewed deputy librarian and other staff to collect the information regarding the library material, budget, and facilities. Moreover, the recommendations are highlighted in fourth chapter to improve the structure of library and make it more excessive for the consumers. The university announces yearly admissions in fifteen bachelors and masters study programs for students. It provides all the facilities such as: library, gymnasium, ambulance, canteen, bus service, quality education at affordable fee structure. The library has books, thesis, magazines, newspapers, and journals in their collection to facilitate students and other consumers. Though there are some deficiencies in terms of protecting books, digitalization of library and providing guidelines about the library, overall the library is working efficiently and on the path of improvement.
