Team Lead – Integration Development (Remote)
Mercans is seeking a Team Lead – Integration Development to lead the design, development, and maintenance of integration solutions connecting its global payroll SaaS platform with HCM, WFM, ERP, accounting, tax, and benefits systems. This role combines technical leadership with hands-on integration expertise to deliver secure, scalable, and compliant data exchange solutions.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Integration Development team.
- Manage resource allocation, sprint planning, backlog grooming, and Agile ceremonies.
- Promote collaboration, innovation, accountability, and knowledge sharing.
- Conduct performance reviews, coaching, and career development planning.
Integration Architecture & Development
- Oversee development of scalable integrations between payroll systems and third-party platforms.
- Define standards for APIs, data transformation, integration workflows, and security.
- Support REST, SOAP, SFTP, Webhooks, JSON, XML, CSV, and EDI technologies.
- Implement authentication standards including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and SAML.
- Ensure compliance with GDPR, SOC 2, CCPA, and payroll regulations.
- Drive CI/CD adoption, performance optimization, error handling, monitoring, and multi-tenant SaaS compatibility.
Monitoring & Continuous Improvement
- Establish proactive monitoring, logging, alerting, and automated recovery mechanisms.
- Define KPIs for uptime, error rates, and data accuracy.
- Lead root cause analysis and continuous performance improvements.
- Introduce predictive approaches to identify and prevent integration bottlenecks.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Act as the technical liaison between engineering teams, customers, vendors, and business stakeholders.
- Support client onboarding and implementation activities.
- Collaborate with product, compliance, security, payroll, and operations teams.
- Contribute to client-facing documentation and best-practice guidance.
Strategy & Process Optimization
- Define the long-term integration strategy aligned with company objectives.
- Evaluate emerging technologies such as AI/ML, RPA, event-driven architectures, microservices, and iPaaS platforms.
- Improve development processes, deployment automation, and integration lifecycle management.
- Drive API versioning, scalability, and maintainability initiatives.
Documentation & Mentorship
- Maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and knowledge repositories.
- Establish onboarding and mentoring programs for developers.
- Implement code reviews, training programs, and best-practice standards.
- 5+ years of software development experience focused on integrations.
- Experience leading development teams in Agile environments.
- Strong Java/Kotlin expertise.
- Experience with REST APIs, data transformation, CI/CD, SQL/NoSQL databases, and cloud integration platforms.
- Knowledge of OAuth 2.0, OpenID, and SAML.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
- Experience in payroll, HR, or workforce management software.
- Knowledge of payroll compliance and tax regulations.
- Experience with MuleSoft, Dell Boomi, Workato, Zapier, or similar iPaaS tools.
- Knowledge of Python or PHP.
- Identify AI/ML automation opportunities and pilot at least one solution.
- Ensure technical reviews for all epics.
- Reduce integration failures by 30% and improve resolution time by 25%.
- Reduce development time per integration project by 20%.
- Complete compliance audits and security improvements.
- Improve technical documentation and onboarding processes.
