The Global Compliance Manager oversees payroll tax compliance across all regions where Mercans’ software is deployed, ensuring products meet legal and regulatory requirements. This role ensures accurate, reliable, and compliant payroll calculations, keeps up with changing legislation, and implements best practices for global payroll compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Tax Compliance Strategy: Develop and execute a vision and roadmap for scalable payroll tax compliance, leveraging AI, ML, and external resources to reduce manual effort. Ensure software reflects accurate, up-to-date regulations across all jurisdictions.
- Regulatory Monitoring & Implementation: Track changes in local, state, federal, and international payroll tax laws. Ensure regulations are correctly configured in the software and validated for accuracy.
- Risk Management: Identify potential compliance risks and implement mitigation strategies. Conduct periodic risk assessments to maintain robust compliance measures.
- Product Collaboration: Partner with Product and Engineering teams to integrate compliance requirements into software design. Advise on enhancements, SaaS readiness, and third-party compliance partner engagement.
- Statutory Integrations: Identify and implement integrations with statutory authorities and other third parties to deliver competitive SaaS solutions.
- Audits & Reporting: Conduct internal audits, prepare compliance reports, and liaise with external auditors and regulatory agencies as needed.
- Stakeholder Support & Education: Develop training and support processes for internal teams and clients. Provide expert guidance and resolve compliance queries within SLAs.
- Policy Development: Maintain payroll tax compliance policies aligned with evolving laws and industry best practices.
- Leadership & Strategy: Lead and mentor the compliance team, drive high performance, and execute a strategic compliance vision. Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure client satisfaction and support business growth. Prepare reports on regulatory changes, audits, and compliance risks for senior management.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Expertise in payroll tax laws, reporting requirements, and compliance frameworks.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to document, analyze, and present complex tax concepts.
- Familiarity with payroll software systems and tax calculation engines.
- Experience in Agile or Waterfall project management methodologies.
Experience & Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years in payroll tax compliance or regulatory compliance in payroll or software industry.
- 3+ years leading compliance teams of 5+ members.
- Proven experience with tax authorities, audits, and compliance reporting.
- Professional certifications (e.g., CPP, CPA) are a plus.
