Backend Operations & Customer Support Partner – Privacy-First Cloud Service fixed price

We are a privacy-first cloud service dedicated to giving users full control over their data. Customers are not the product: their data is end-to-end encrypted and hosted securely in Germany via Hetzner.

Our mission: raise the bar for digital privacy, make data collection illegal to buy, and create a platform where privacy is the default.

We are looking for a trusted EU-based operations partner to manage backend infrastructure and provide technical customer support (only for server related issues, and since everything is private this is likely to only be restarts and occasionally connecting an s3 object with a container and inserting the encryption key in the file system).

You will:

• Handle backend operations for our Kubernetes-based cluster hosting Nextcloud containers.
• Monitor infrastructure and correct any errors.
• Assist customers with backend-related issues, helping troubleshoot syncing, access, or performance problems.
• Manage VPS instances or servers, orchestrate containers, and handle routing/load balancing.

You will not:

• Manage sales, development, or marketing — the founder handles these.
• Be responsible for provisioning — deployment will be automated.

Startup environment: Initially, the founder will assist with helpdesk and support, but your role will grow as the customer base expands.

• Monitor Kubernetes clusters running Nextcloud containers on Hetzner servers.
• Ensure server security, load balancing, routing, and backups.
• Respond to operational alerts and correct any errors.
• Assist with backend issues, escalating where needed.
• Maintain operational independence to protect user privacy.
• Coordinate with the founder on system improvements, dashboards, and customer guides.
• Experience managing Linux servers, Docker, Kubernetes, and Nextcloud.
• Strong understanding of server security, monitoring, and automated backups.
• EU/EEA-based contractor or small company.
• Reliable internet and ability to respond promptly to alerts.
• Able to invoice as a contractor/small company.
